Yep!
It was under forecasted, but it turned out to be an over performing clipper system that moved further south (over Fairfax Co and orher surrounding counties) than predicted . It was a burst of snow that actually stuck and therefore accumulated. It moved out, being a clipper system, as fast as it came, but caused havoc (and not just for schools) bc it was at like 730am.

Garza was spooked about Northern Virginia winters for the duration of her superintendentence.

Yes.

Meteorologically, this is a nightmare scenario to predict. Ground temps are above freezing, but there's supposed to be a band of intense snowfall that crosses the region somewhere tomorrow morning. Except no one knows where it will be. Under that intense snowfall, accumulation will stick on the roads and make everything super slick since the roads cannot be treated because of the rain tonight. When roads aren't treated, even a light coating of snow will lead to accidents. But outside of that band of snow, it will be normal wet roads.

There's no win-win here. It's gambling, and FCPS has chosen not to risk accidents.

The system that was going to dump a bunch of snow north of us very dramatically shifted course in the last 24 hours. To the point where folks who were supposed to get 14” are now getting 1”. The southern shift puts us in an area where we will likely have heavy snow for a short period of time in the morning. Most of it will melt, so delay not closing.

LCPS is overcautious.

I show 38 at 6 am. So ridiculous to have a delay.

I remember that! I was waiting (in the car) with my son at his bus stop and it was like a blizzard. I finally just took him back home, not caring whether school was cancelled or not. I wasn't about to let him go, regardless!
