This process is grueling but good luck to everyone!

Congrats DD considering applying RD for cs

Did you get in to other schools?

Yes. 9 other schools from single digits to 70% acceptance. Merit aid from 8 of them totaling $200,000, roughly $24 per school. Range from $17K to $32K or about 30-60% of tuition.

Not bragging. DC worked their ass off while facing major challenges. Decided on their own to apply EA to all that offered it.

DC figured Michigan was an extreme reach as OOS and test-optional. Honestly, they applied because lots of close and extended family members have masters degrees from U-M and have talked about it for DC's entire life.

I am vicariously happy for those who get in. You earned it! Go Blue!

Astonishing that someone with these stats is bothering to apply to you of them. Others from the big three with such stats, almost surely end up at IV and other schools much higher ranked than Michigan.
Something seems fishy

The latter means they haven't had a chance to review the application yet.

Michigan will release traunches of the postponed over the next several weeks as they can.

I don't think so...according the the U of M website:

"What does it mean to be postponed"

"We have decided to postpone making a decision on your application at this time, and your application will be moved into our regular decision pool for consideration. We need additional time to review your credentials and determine how your strengths and academic achievements would fit with the composition and quality of this year’s first-year applicant pool."

I know this from an UM admissions officer directly: postponed = deferred. They have read all applications. This same misconception is repeated every year.

Why withdraw? You don’t have to decide until May 1st. Seems silly to withdraw at this point.

This was very common for high fliers from my DC's Big 3 cohort. Michigan is EA so why not? They don't generally end up there but it's good to cover one's bets.

You clearly don’t have the first clue at how saught after Michigan is-not just academically but also for amazing school spirit and the chance to have a life as well as working hard. You Ivy League snobs will never get it and that’s good because we don’t want your kind anyhow!!! People in the Midwest are kind-why many kids from the DMV want to escape this cesspool.

Michigan is no one’s safety-Big 3 or not. They can tell who truly wants to go and who doesn’t and acts accordingly. Can’t wait to see how low the EA rate is this year for OOS.

I agree that Michigan isn't a safety. I also haven't observed too many of my kids' school's tippy top kids ultimately attending. They do, however, tend to apply in droves. It's a great school and EA makes it a no-brainer for many.

I’m from Michigan, 30 years ago we all applied early for in state rolling admissions and if you were in the top third of your class with decent scores you got a fat envelope in the mail within 2 weeks. How things have changed! My DD is applying with significantly higher qualifications than I had and just praying she makes it.

In looking at the College Confidential thread only the top stats kids (lots of 36 ACT and 4.0 GPA’s are being accepted). Many many deferrals.

Even 10 years ago, when my DC applied, EA notification was in December. DC was accepted EA and then was able to skip applications at a couple of other schools since it was before those deadlines. Also was able to get the Honors application in quickly so that result was in hand along with other acceptances in the spring.
