Teens need boots

Really? my kid keeps a beat up old pair of sneakers in his gym locker and changes every day.

If he didn't, he would't get to wear his crocs or his slides or his hey dudes, or whatever other ridiculous footwear is popular at the moment

It just was painful to see when I was stopped at a traffic light, the rare teen with boots walking on one patch that had some ice was fine, but almost all the kids with sneakers slid and some fell. Maybe the natural consequence will convince them. I'm sure the parents tried.

Op Do you have teens?

Troll fail.

Excuse me? Do you mean the person claiming it’s literally impossible to change into shoes at their school is a troll?

“Garbage excuse for a school” because kids can’t change boots? Where do expect them to do it, in the crowded hallway or locker area while standing up? Go away crazy lady.

Yes in the locker area while standing up. Presumably teens are in good enough shape that bending down isn’t life threatening

What locker area? Have you even been in a MS or HS this decade? There are no lockers, let alone locker areas.

I dunno. You may want to consider that some school districts may be different than yours.

My kids have 2 lockers. One in the hallway, and one in the gym lockeroom

With no locker, my kid doesn't even want to wear a coat. There's already way too much to carry around all day.

Gym lockers in DD's school are only used for storing stuff while the kids are in PE. They have to clear out when they're done with class, and get a total of 2 minutes to change, take their stuff, and get out.

I think it's the people that feel that kids should wear boots/hats/coats/gloves that need to understand that not all schools are like the ones their kids go to where they have facilities and time to store their shit.

My high school kid can't change for PE. No lockers.

My son wants to wear shorts to school in the snow, the sneakers instead of boots are an extra battle I’m not choosing to fight.

I think it’s crazy that so many parents just ACCEPT schools that are so poorly run that their kids can’t even wear GD coats in the winter.

DD’s school has lockers. There is just no time to go to the lockers, so she carries a 20 lbs. backpack all day long. This is the reason lots of schools either don’t have lockers, or don’t assign them unless requested. The kids simply do not use them.

As for coats, if she had to stop and retrieve her coat from her locker, she’ll miss her bus. As it is, she has missed it a couple of times because she has to run to the opposite end of the school to retrieve her instrument first.

How many adults are wearing boots and changing at work? None of you. I’m not. And no, the entire way isn’t on perfectly cleared sidewalks for me either. The kids will be okay and all of this will be melted in another day or two.

My kid is in MS. He has a locker. They aren't allowed to carry backpacks in school so they have to put it in their locker at the beginning of the day. They also have PE lockers. This is Arlington.

Do your kids go to some very small private school? Most public high schools around here literally have thousands of students. There's no room in the school to give each student two lockers.

What would be your solution?
