Any help with teens that sneak out?

Cook story

So helpful

Honestly the only way to prevent is no sleepovers (they always sleep over the parents that have laxed rules or the kid that can steal the car at night, even without a license.)

And middle of the night bed checks

Teens can get around any other thing if they want to.

And don’t think they only sneak out on weekends. There are plenty of kids with single parents that work 3rd shift.

How about an ankle monitor and house arrest? If he so much as steps foot outside without permission again, threaten to ship him off to one of those scared straight juvenile boot camps.

You can't understand that not all kids are like yours?

Clearly a parent who hasn’t had a teen who moved to a not so good friend group and went downhill. It’s no fun, so stop judging.

My kid cut the electric wire from the window sensor in the garage. I was pretty impressed but also annoyed because we could have been robbed any day and our alarm system would have never tripped.

Like another poster said, I only trust bed checks and that was when they were caught.

They sound kinda boring. I wouldn’t glamorize teen drinking, I was actually a bit of a nerd at that age, but I used to sneak out with my best friend to the local park and we’d swing and talk, walk to the 24 hour diner, and something about being out in the middle of the night on an “adventure” made me feel truly alive. This same drive is what made me do a lot of brave things in my life. Just saying.

Was this a long time ago? Because my system would alert that there's no window sensor

Honestly, this is one of the reasons we live in a part of DC most of DCUM wouldn’t ever choose to live in. My kids know if they were to sneak out there’s a high chance that they’ll be shot and killed while wandering around.

NP. 🙄 You can be brave and adventurous without doing things like sneaking out. Most kids don’t do this. I’m sorry OP is dealing with this, and I agree with others about trying to find the root cause.

I would also put find my friends on find my iPhone. There is a parent lock that won’t let you freeze like life 360. But make sure you have their iPhone screen time on parent code restrictions and they can’t offload or temp delete the app.

Under screen time, content and privacy restrictions. It forces a 4 digit code to add and/or delete apps.

My kids downtime is set 11pm to 7am anyway so they can’t mess with anything.

There is always risk for burner phones though. So that is why getting the house security better too. And you can also physically check in the middle of the night.

Wow. Been there, done that?

I wish you could come around to local elementary schools and do consults for parents. I'd pay for this.

There were posts in another thread that parents didn't know what screen time, app limits and downtime were on an iPhone. And I was like who the heck gives their teen a phone with unlimited internet, social media, and apps with no way to control it. That's insane.

Parents who have trustworthy kids?

? that's a really dumb reason. They could be shot for their coat, shoes, iphone while walking in broad daylight.

+1 it’s all about what kind of friends your child has. It’s so important they surround themselves with the right people.
