I hate that it's so hard to accomodate Android users in an Apple world

Yes I have beliefs and values and don't give in for every tech gadget or need to have item. Like my niece who got AF 1s and was shuffling around because she can't "crease" then. Jfc.

I have an android and communicate just fine with apple users. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a phone. I'm not contracting with Verizon or any other company that uses Apple to get users, we use a cheaper plan. When my child is adult they can buy their own phone and plan. In the meantime, we use value phones and a budget cell phone service because they work and why pay more?

OP here and yes, I forgot to mention the games. Apparantly there's some sort of in-text games that all her friends play but all it does for DD is send a picture of it. The group chat issue seems to be that you cant add androids to an existing group chat, and so you have to make a new one with different settings. She has mentioned the issues with not recieving texts.

The annoying thing is that I was an early adopter of Apple computers and used them when everybody had IBMs. I finally switched to Windows because of compatibility issues, only to end up back in the same compatibility situation with phones. OP here and I completely agree, nobody wants to Google Meet DD. Her friends constantly FaceTime each other and occasionally it will show up as a link and DD can join in, but otherwise she cant really communicate with them depending on if her phone actually sends her texts. I hate Apple, enough that I've waited this long before agreeing that she needs an iPhone, but I really don't want to get it for her.

Yes, you should switch to an iPhone. I honestly don’t understand why you hate iPhones so much. Once you’re using them, everything pieces together. It’s very easy and seamless. It seems to me that using your Android is what’s causing the issue.

Of course, non-iPhone people can be in chats, but adding those numbers makes the chats unchangable. So, a whole new group chat needs to be made anytime a change needs to be made. That’s why people leave the androids out of the group chat.

It doesn’t work for everyone.

We have a family group chat. It works fine for 4 iPhone users, but one iPhone user doesn’t receive any of the texts. We’re all visiting together at a family member’s house right now and we were trying to test it yesterday. If we create a smaller group chat with just the iPhone users, he does receive the texts. Add one Android and he does not.

Mean kids leave iPhone users out of group chats too, or kick them out for inexplicable reasons. Some kids are just jerks, and their parents excuse the behavior.

We got our kids android phones when they were in MS. I think it was an older samsung.

When older DC hit HS, they were being left out of group chats with friends who had iphones so they were missing the jokes and the last minute get togethers. I asked DC why they couldn't text them separately for outings, but they said that's now how it works with teens now. I resisted getting them an iphone. DC was always a bit of a nerd and socially immature, so being left out of these chats was making their social life worse.

So, we relented and got them an iphone, though they did save money and pay for some of it. They started to get included in the chat groups, and along with other factors, they started to hang out more with the big friend group.

Get them the iphone for their social life. And I am not one to buy the latest and greatest, keep up with the Joneses type.

I have an iPhone and I hear people say this all the time. I’m also on multiple group chats with a combo of iPhone/android users. I guess “liking” a text isn’t the same. But otherwise, I really don’t get what it is that makes it awful to text android users. You’re not the only one to say this so just trying to understand. Maybe I’m too basic of a texter.

This was a few years ago. I think the iphone group chats with android ability is better now, but it's supposedly better on the new iphones, but those are expensive.

When an android user is on a group chat, it strips away features from that chat. A lot of kids don't like that, so they start a new chat without the android user. That happened to my kid who was not really part of the core group, so the group didn't care if my DC was part of the group chat. They told DC to get an iphone. Kids are kind of mean like that. They aren't adults who are fine with not having some features. I have a group chat with 2 iphone users and 2 android users, and it's fine. However, we are adults, and we don't use all the features.

My DC is now in college, and still has an iphone. They facetime with their bf/gf all the time who is at another college. Everything else we have is non Apple products. It's only their iphones that's an Apple product.
