I hate that it's so hard to accomodate Android users in an Apple world

Android users can join a FaceTime call they just can’t initiate.

Can they see an existing FaceTime group and join?

If everyone else has an iPhone then the actual issue is that you don’t. Suck it up, it’s an easy fix.

Why would Apple do this aside from bullying android users? That is exactly what makes me not purchase their products.

yes, that's why I hate apple. They want to lock you in, and force people to only use their products.

Plus I hate macs. And iphones are not really compatible with windows machines.

I also hate the fact that you have to give your credit card to create an Apple ID. We had our cc stolen from our AppleID 3x.

We never use the dam! thing. We only created the Apple ID when our 13 yr old got an iphone, and they never buy anything from the apps, but we still had to put a cc in there.

The first time, we called Apple, and they reversed the charges. Then we got a new credit card number. Apparently, Apple will get your new cc# automatically, and use that in your account. So, that new cc# had charges against it from the hacker. Apple didn't lock our account. So we got a new cc again. And then it happened again. WTF. They finally figured out the user account that was using our cc # and locked them out.

We loathe Apple.

the actual issue is that Apple acts like a tyrant and doesn't want to be inclusive, which is ironic given their icon has a rainbow in it.

This reminds me of my father, a programmer, refusing to buy MS Office in the early '00s and forcing us to use Corel Office at home instead because he had an ideological bone to pick with Microsoft. This made us constantly have to convert file formats back and forth to save or use on school computers or send to the 95% of normal people that had MS Office, and I was less comfortable in using all the available program tools on MS Word and Excel and PowerPoint than my friends who had it at home and it limited me. I resented it. It didn't make me admire my dad's independent-mindedness, it made me think he was pointless and petty and couldn't pick his battles and was thoughtlessly making a stand on my back rather than his own. For the record, of course he's now the only one in our family with an Android, because that's him.

No kid wants to be the one with the weird incompatible tech rooted in parental rigid dogma.

I really hate apple for designing their phones to leave out android users. That should be against the law as we all know it’s to claim a monopoly.

Correct. This is the point for apple. And the reason I won't get one.

So your beliefs are more important than your kids social life. Got it.

Yes I have beliefs and values and don't give in for every tech gadget or need to have item. Like my niece who got AF 1s and was shuffling around because she can't "crease" then. Jfc.

I have an android and communicate just fine with apple users. I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for a phone. I'm not contracting with Verizon or any other company that uses Apple to get users, we use a cheaper plan. When my child is adult they can buy their own phone and plan. In the meantime, we use value phones and a budget cell phone service because they work and why pay more?

The fact that you are so aggressive and antagonistic over a literal cell phone brand is bizarre.

She isn’t. You are. You’re unbelievably nasty because you’re a fragile and simple-minded snob. Signed - Apple user

Name calling is so tacky. Do better in 2024!

Do better with your self-awareness, you complete…

You should examine why you are fighting with people on the internet over your preferred cell phone brand.

If someone calls them from the group I believe so they just can’t initiate the contact. They get a url link similar to a zoom link.

No, that is a different issue.

The issue here is this kid being able to communicate with friends. Suck it up. It’s an easy solution.

No
Android is better
The only thing anyone has mentioned on this thread as to why they are using an Apple is just ease of use and that is artificially created by the Apple corporation.

they can't communicate as easily because Apple doesn't play nice with android.

Sure, the solution is easy, but it's pricey, and Apple sucks.

+1 Apple has to keep their closed garden ecosystem because they can't complete otherwise. Worldwide, Android has the greater market share.

This is my sister. She is absolutely rigid and loves to be a contrarian, so the android/apple hill is her favorite death spot, because she is actually correct on the technical merits of her argument (the superiority of some the android technology or whatever). People who are willing to die on ideological hills that are not actually life or death are the worst kinds of people. Get the kid an iphone and move on.
