Floors: Second floor and basement are carpet and DH vacuums them about once every two weeks or so. First floor is hardwood and DH sweeps with a dust-catching mop thing about once a month. Ummm...I've wet mopped I think twice in 8 years. It's not good.
Bathrooms: Maybe once a month. Really scrub shower/tubs: Probably 3x a year. Change bed sheets: I try to do this every week, but sometimes it stretches to every two weeks. I like clean sheets. Dust: Once a month? Or even more rarely? Inside of oven/microwave: DH does this pretty regularly. Maybe every couple of weeks. Windows: Our back doors are glass windows and I clean those pretty regularly -- ever 2 weeks or so -- because when I come home my two dogs are there, feet up on the glass, nose pressed against the glass, wagging their tails. So it needs cleaning. Our other windows have maybe been cleaned 2-3x since we moved in 8 years ago. Mirrors: Ugh, I don't notice this until they are terrible. So it can be a couple of months. Stairways: DH vacuums them every 2 wks or so. Empty out and scrub fridge: Once a year? Garage floors: Never. Baseboards: Never. Fans/blinds/light fixtures: Maybe once a year. |
I had a schedule for all of these things or tried to do them as needed. I finally realized that even if I had every member of my family do 30 minutes a day and an hour each weekend day that we'd never keep up. And that doesn't take into account the time and energy required to manage all of it - teach the kids to do it right, ask everyone if they've done their chores (including husband), check the kids work, deal with the unexpected mess, etc. We hired cleaners a few weeks ago and are cutting back in other areas. I finally have some time for decorating/organizing projects. |
