So weird. Our MCPS school has no 2024 data in Naviance. It also says that nothing has happened on transcript requests sent in September! Career center assured kid that they would be sent in time, but one school is rolling and app was submitted in Sept. Really disappointed in the career counselor. There is not much communication. Good thing kid's main counselor is responsive. |
Same. It doesn't allow us to apply to any other private universities EA or ED. And only EA to public universities. So he has two EAs with 11/1 deadlines and the rest are RD. |
Is this typical? DS's school doesn't have any such restrictions. |
| Only know my kid. WM and Vasser. Has not decided which isnED1 and which is ED2 yeast. |

I would guess the high schools might still send out in time and I’d still give it a shot. Plus there is some wiggle room often for school-sent materials. My guess is the deadline is to ensure the entire senior class doesn’t wait until Oct. 31 to send in their Nov 1 deadline transcript requests. I imagine a lot of kids not only miss the deadline inadvertently but also change their minds on ED or add an EA school, etc. |
Thank you for this! I had no idea of this feature. I'm surprised at the number of applications already submitted. Was I just naive and thought most of the applications would have been submitted closer to 11/1? |
I'm going to be honest - I haven't gone to any of the recent college prep crap at the school. The info isn't geared towards kids like my daughter. Not to mention that this time of year is completely insane for me workwise AND we all keep getting ill. I have managed to get her to several school visits in the middle of the chaos. Most of the schools she is applying to aren't on ANYONE'S radar here, so Naviance is useless to us. Daughter probably got this info through her classes and just didn't store it in her memory bank. Again, many of them are rolling admission, so the deadline isn't that big a deal. Here is the info on her top choice school's website: "Those applying by November 1 should submit all required application materials (transcripts, recommendations, etc.) by November 20 for a decision by December 15. Those applying by December 1 should submit all required application materials (transcripts, recommendations, etc.) by December 20 for a decision by January 15." I mean, worst case scenario, she goes into the Dec 1 pile and hears in mid-Jan rather than mid-Dec. She already knows she has been placed in the performing arts program she wants (she is planning to double major there), so this is just the academic admission part. |
This is the question we’re discussing in this thread—is it actually applications submitted or something else related to transcript requests or other counselor work? I’ve looked at this more closely and found that my kid’s counselor has submitted transcripts and the counselor recommendation to all nine of my kid’s schools; this is viewable in Naviance. My kid has officially submitted two applications, both to EA schools that show multiple applicants for 2024. But when I look at my kid’s other schools, some show 2024 applicants and some don’t. This is what leads me to believe the bar chart is showing actual applicants rather than transcript requests—kid’s transcripts have been sent everywhere, so if the bar chart was reflecting transcript requests or submission, it would show applicants for every school kid is applying to. But the numbers of applicants for schools with ED (not EA) seem unbelievable. So I’m not sure what to think. |

The Pitt numbers increased on Sunday evening for our school so I’m guessing it’s actual applications unless staff at the HS was working on Sunday. It wasn’t immediate though- has to be at least a couple hours lag.
I feel like some large publics automatically load data into Naviance whereas small private schools are manually entered. I’m guessing this because UMD admissions immediately all show when they happen whereas most schools seem to lag until manual entry of kids’ paper forms. Can anyone confirm? |
| Can someone post a screenshot of what it looks like? I still cannot find it but I think maybe my private school has deactivated the feature |
I know that it's true for Princeton (and other restrictive early action schools) and our school counselors enforce it (you can only apply to other publics EA; no ED at any school and no EA at any other privates) It sounds like a lot of people here cheat the system. So, for instance, you could not apply REA to Princeton and EA to Georgetown, but you could REA to Princeton and EA UVA. |

PP is likely referring to a scea or rea type of ea app. It's not the high school that restricts, it's the college's special ea requirements (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Georgetown) |
