My kid’s MCPS high school is at around 70 today in Naviance for UMD but I am sure more than twice that number will apply. The school requires a month before sending a transcript.
My kid here in VA had a meltdown last night because she just discovered the 30 day transcript deadlines. She was trying to get her common app done for all the places she is applying, and several of them suggest Nov 1. I was able to talk her down because many of her schools are basically rolling and the deadlines are somewhat squishy. Her favorite has 2 EA dates, and there is some leeway on getting the official docs in. Another of her favorites sent mail a week or so ago saying they don’t even need official transcripts for her application to be complete.
Did they not warn you about the deadline? At our school they warned us at all of the college night events.
I would guess the high schools might still send out in time and I’d still give it a shot. Plus there is some wiggle room often for school-sent materials. My guess is the deadline is to ensure the entire senior class doesn’t wait until Oct. 31 to send in their Nov 1 deadline transcript requests. I imagine a lot of kids not only miss the deadline inadvertently but also change their minds on ED or add an EA school, etc.
I'm going to be honest - I haven't gone to any of the recent college prep crap at the school. The info isn't geared towards kids like my daughter. Not to mention that this time of year is completely insane for me workwise AND we all keep getting ill. I have managed to get her to several school visits in the middle of the chaos. Most of the schools she is applying to aren't on ANYONE'S radar here, so Naviance is useless to us. Daughter probably got this info through her classes and just didn't store it in her memory bank. Again, many of them are rolling admission, so the deadline isn't that big a deal. Here is the info on her top choice school's website: "Those applying by November 1 should submit all required application materials (transcripts, recommendations, etc.) by November 20 for a decision by December 15. Those applying by December 1 should submit all required application materials (transcripts, recommendations, etc.) by December 20 for a decision by January 15." I mean, worst case scenario, she goes into the Dec 1 pile and hears in mid-Jan rather than mid-Dec. She already knows she has been placed in the performing arts program she wants (she is planning to double major there), so this is just the academic admission part.
