Well does your kid want to go to school in Chicago or Nashville?
My kid (who lacks opinions in most things) would be able to tell you that in about 5 seconds.

Is vandy easier to get into for ED than NU? My gut says yes, by a lot.

You'd be very wrong. Just looked it up. Vanderbilt's ED acceptance rate is 15.7 percent. Northwestern's is 21.2 percent.

Vanderbilt takes all their athletes through RD whereas Northwestern takes them during ED so you can’t go just based on numbers. I would also say Northwestern gets stronger students applying overall.

Is this correct about Vanderbilt taking all of it's athletes in RD? And northeastern taking them in ED? Where is this information for these schools and for other schools? I don't see it.

The PP referenced Northwestern, not Northeastern. Big difference.

SCOIR is pretty depressing when looking at the Ivies. It does seem like a wasted lottery ticket. Super high stats all rejected--and the few high stats that did get in I know for a fact were legacy and/or athlete.

The UC schools don’t have EA or ED, but they might recruit for sports early. My kid had a classmate who was recruited the summer before senior year for her sport.

Not sports, and she claims friend is going to take a gap year, too. Could someone have already gotten an answer from UCLA if they applied as early as possible? I don’t know-we’re in VA and not considering any west coast schools

UCLA hates gaps years and rarely grants them.

I did post upthread that MY kid may be wrong about the school AND/OR the friend is pulling her leg. I don't know her very well - she's a fairly new friend that I only met in person for the first time a couple months ago.

My own child is applying early action almost everywhere (10 or 11 schools), most of them seem to be somewhat rolling admission and many of them don't require an application fee. Welcome to applying to school for the kids below a 3.0!

Yes. Would never waste an ED or REA on an Ivy, except possibly Cornell. When you look at the athletes, legacies, URMs, children of faculty, and VIPs taken in the early round, there is absolutely no admissions advantage for randos applying from the burbs. Waste of an application.
