Official name: Washington Reagan National Airport

Can we get back to the issue at hand now, please.

Don't care about official names. I'm calling it National till the day I die.

OP, you screwed up. You know you were there longer than 3 minutes, and you obviously argued with someone who has the power to give you a ticket. So you got a ticket. Own up and pay up.

Having been waiting for someone to pick me up in the pouring rain more than once at NATIONAL, I can tell you with authority that loiterers are the worst. Get out of the way and let people who are actually already at the curb get picked up.

I once listened to a guy idling by the curb talking to his kid on speakerphone starting from the minute she landed and called him until the minute she got in his car with her obviously checked bag. Jerk.

Officer wrote ticket while elderly mother in sight because we weren't doing immediate pickup - we were there for less than 3 minutes total and there was literally no one else there. Total power move, called for her supervisor, she blatantly lied about how long we were there (she said 10-15 minutes) and supervisor sided with her.

My question is: do I have to pay this (live and registered in Virginia)? And has anyone else dealt with this?

Honestly in the context of airport pick up and drop off, 3 minutes might as well be 10-15 minutes. It's a pretty fast turn around.

As for whether you need to pay it, you did refuse to move, the supervisor sided with the parking officer, and you got a ticket for refusing to move your car. Why wouldn't you pay that ticket? You undeniably did what you were cited for.

And it's National, not Reagan.

I'm as liberal as anyone around, and this is just stupid. It's been Reagan for a couple of decades. Deal with it.

Those who say 'Reagan' are probably trying to make 'National Landing' happen. It's not happening, Gretchen.

Let it go, grandma. Saying National makes you sound old.

It’s NATIONAL and it is a gift to be old/ older. One day if you are lucky you will be too.

Go to DIA, you have maybe 45 seconds

This thread is bonkers. None of us were there and none of us know if OP is telling the truth or not.
Its totally reasonable that the OP was there longer than 3 minute AND the airport parking officer was on a power trip.

And call the airport whatever you damn well please. Everyone knows what you mean.

This EXACT thing happened to me with my elderly mother in law. We got a ticket as my husband was escorting her out the baggage claim door and across the street to the car.

LOL.

I'm not sure what is LOL about this, but after 9/11 there were new rules re parking within 100 yards of a terminal. I was working on the BWI renovation of its parking garages in 2001 and we almost couldn't complete the project because of it.

Nothing re 9/11 is LOL.
