Why? This is an administrative job |
The kinda leader who both passed the buck and supported the cops who murdered that kid might actually be tough on crime. |
You think that just anyone can run the police department of a major city? She will be pushed out in under a year |
Who would even push her out?! The DC council is not serious about tackling crime, so the less effective she is the better for all the loony pro-criminal council members. |
There will be a drum beat of stories about how, amid a historic crime wave, the police department is headed by a feckless park ranger who is in way over her head. Eventually bowser will tire of the criticism and find someone new. |
The glimmer of hope I have for the new chief is I have to believe that Bowser recognizes how bad things will get for her of crime and public safety don’t improve. |
| USPP is more willing to enforce District laws than MPD: ask your fave cop about his last 61d infraction. |
...or at least, if not tough on crime, at least okay with accidental extrajudicial killing. |

I’m sorry but when I hear she was “head of dei”, i’m led to believe that she will not be tough on crime, but more so someone who will be looking at alternatives to strict enforcement of justice, that could lead to incarceration, in order to promote equity goals. I mean it’s not controversial to consider that, seeing as how progressive criminal justice reform seeks the same types of “holistic”, wrap around, compassionate reform of criminal behavior vs. the classic arrest and prosecute law enforcement. The cities crime rates are skyrocketing. If we get someone who is unwilling to take hard measures, compared to the policies that have been implemented nationwide that followes the backlash against police misconduct, and criminals know there are no real consequences for their actions, I don’t see how we can lower crime rates.
Obviously, “more programs” and wrap around services are good things, but so is taking violent criminals off streets. |
If the city is that crime ridden, you could just move on. The rest of us actually understand city living & crime go together due to broken window policies and the actions due to white forefathers which have a trickle down effect. |
Lol. But I hope you are not a victim from all the lawlessness. No one deserves that. |
Love how if one white guy from ward 3 gets hurt riding his bike on Connecticut avenue, we have to turn out transportation policy upside down because our goal is supposed to be no one ever gets hurt. But 30,000 mostly black crime victims every year? Oh well, what can you do? That’s city living for ya |
I’m sorry, but the real issue is that crime stats for murder and violent crime are astronomically higher than in 2022. Like insane. Why can’t we just arrest and prosecute, higher more cops and stop hamstringing them from doing their job, and basically reform the USAO to allow for more prosecution. Why so much siding with the perpetrators of crime rather than the victims? Do you care about the city’s tax base? You know it’ll erode if families leave because of all the muggings and catalytic converter theft. Also, I live in the inner city and grew up in it. So fk off with that talk about not knowing about city life. The way it is now, with progressive criminal justice policies, is that obviously they are not working and crime is rising because criminals can smell leniency from a mile away. Sadly so can teenage offenders. If they know they won’t have tough repercussions than what’s stopping them from committing crimes. If you want people to ultimately equate and associate progressive criminal just policy with a rise in crime we should keep going on with this charade. What will ultimately happen is that pendulum will swing the other way again, like what happened in the 90’s, and we will oversteer on cracking down on crime. There is nothing new under the sun. All these novel, restorative Justice focused efforts where everyone gets a hug and slap on the wrist, just don’t deter crime. It’s so obvious, but I guess our local elected officials will continue on this route, and naive protestors and non-profits will keep up their idiotic efforts to dismantle the criminal justice system, and bringing their little signs to DC council meetings and shouting at anyone who wants tougher policies on violent crime. |
Can you explain how you “understand city living”? So that must mean us other idiots simply can’t appreciate and understand the beautiful complexity of a double digit increase in violent crime or a 30% year over year increase in murders, because we simply just aren’t able to appreciate urbanism in the same way? Even those of us who grew up surrounded by crime in the 70’s and 80’s don’t even have a little perspective to add? |
Ah yes, another in a continuing series of posts entitled "Everything Is Actually About Bike Lanes." |
