New police chief spent her career at the park police?

Wasn’t she the head of DEI at some agency? And now she’s leading the police, and will probably push progressive criminal reform type of policy (basically leniency) at a time of rising crime?

Great. So criminals will be even more coddled than they are now.

The Council has made clear they do not want MPD doing traffic enforcement. It’s inequitable.

The same reason they don’t enforce illegal tags.

How does "equity" give someone a pass to speed, run red lights, put fake license plates on your car, and drive recklessly?

That is a great question.....

Equity is being used to implement leniency criminal justice and less incarceration. Criminals know it. It’s so obvious. The crime rate is up 20% since last year. Prosecutions don’t happen. It’s a mess. But it makes people feel good and virtuous, even if it actually makes the city less safe. There so many examples of “equitable” policies like this. For one, the fact that no matter how many thousands in speeding tickets you get you’ll never lose your license because tickets are “oppression”. Ugh. I’m so sick of living in the inner city with such jackazz council members who do jacksht except wring their hands and propose evermore lenient criminal justice legislation.

Thanks to her DEI background, hopefully our new police chief will be bringing a welcome fresh perspective instead of just locking up justice-involved citizens. For example, maybe she can teach us how we should really be celebrating the wonderfully creative and vibrant range of crimes that we get to experience as part of city life?

That’s probably why Bowser picked her - because she watched The Wire

Wapo seems to contradict your anecdotal claim. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/21/new-dc-police-chief-smith/

An HR lady better suited to hounding people to get their open enrollment forms submitted.

Just tell us you have no idea what the Park Police does, it’ll go faster.

I know that if they catch you fishing without a license, they will come down on you like the hammer of Thor. They are not messing around!

Park Police pursue and kill people and don't say anything about it for months or years. They could wear body cams, like respectable police, if they cared about being respectable.

They do wear bodycams.
“Ms. Smith began requiring Park Police officers to wear body cameras before other federal agencies did.”

They’re like mall cops but less impressive.

We all know what the park police do. That’s why people think this is an absurd pick to run the DC police department.
