Haha OP this you? |
| Niche says that BASIS McLean is the number one private school in the state of Virginia, ahead of Potomac etc. |
| Basis is working to boost enrollment and popularity through marketing and social. This thread, and the sad troll-infiltrated posts that have riddled DCUM for the past few months, are the result of that. |
Pretty strong evidence that Niche rankings are inaccurate. Just read this thread and make up your own mind. |
| I have nothing against this school, but given the history of Basis trolling this forum for publicity, I cannot believe OP is for real. Especially trying to compare it to the "Big 3" smells fishy. |
| Why won't the school post anything about matriculations? |
. Dude I laughed. |
| I have 3 kids in public school in McLean. We have looked into all the nearby privates and Basis is probably the strongest academically. The school is like a private TJ in terms of mathematics and science. We were turned off by the small size of each grade and lack of sports. The students we know who moved from our public AAP to Basis are the brightest, much brighter than the ones we know who moved to STA, NCS, Holton, Landon, Madeira, Potomac, Little Langley and any others. We have seen students leave public because the kids can’t outcompete the smart kids. The ones who go to Basis were at the top and public was too easy for them. I toured Basis several times and my kids would not be able to keep up at Basis. |
This reeks of BS. |
| Every time the BASIS booster posts, the big three parents bite and hard. So insecure. |
Pointing out the BASIS deception is for the good of the forum. |
|
Does Basis have Homecoming? Does it have a Prom? Are there big football games or athletic events the kids go to show school spirit? Is there a golf team? Is there school security?
If you are strictly looking for academics and don’t care about the social experience or extracurriculars, Basis is probably ok. According to Niche.com, the schools numbers look great, but our kids are into to many extracurricular activities that are non academic. |
The type of kid who goes to TJ goes to Basis. My kids are not that type. I can at least give credit where credit is due. My kids are still young so they are not in high school yet. |
For the record, the answer to all of your questions, other than the big football games and golf team, is yes. Basis is a very good school, among the top for STEM. In a general sense, I would not put it in the same league as the Big 3 or even Potomac. But for some, Basis is a perfect fit. I’m a current parent there and have no shame in admitting it’s not the absolute top school in the area in the general sense. It just works well for what it’s focused on. |
I don’t see that at all. According to US News, TJ is over 450 students per grade and over 70% Asian. BIM 9-12 is under 50 students per grade (under 35 per grade for 10-12!) and less than 1% Asian. Also, TJ is free and BIM charges tuition. It’s really hard for me to imagine any family being attracted to both schools. |
