What schools do you think will be in new region 6

I stopped paying attention to complaints about split feeders when the parents in Vienna/Fairfax insisted their kids should be moved from Jackson to Thoreau even though it turned Thoreau into a three-way split feeder.

Perhaps each region could have a designated Academy, a designated IB school, a designated language immersion pyramid, etc. That would give some meaningful use to regions. Otherwise regions really have no practical use for the community, it's only an administrative tool.

Woe to the decent school in a region with high poverty schools. Region 3 gets around it now by having all schools with highish poverty rates, but region 2 has some of the poorest and richest schools Marshall and McLean would be over capacity from the second a right of transfer exists.

I think you would be surprised. A good number of parents would not move their kids. The transportation issues are going to be harder for lower income families. You might see families the small percent of families that are middle class at those schools look to transfer but those might be the families that have been sending kids to private school already.

During the school board meeting of June 26, they mentioned that the 3 people that are involved in region 6 are invited to the July 13 regular meeting; they’re probably announce the schools there.

So it’s a big deal for the new Regional Superintendent and two new Executive Principals. Otherwise, who cares?

Principals (at least the ones moving regions) have already been told but sworn to secrecy.

The suspense is killing me. Just kidding - could not care less how they reshuffle Gatehouse insiders.

It’s just a shame that Reid is creating new Gatehouse positions rather than adding more teachers and focusing on facilities.

Really? Those schools don’t even share a boundary.

I guess that would include TJ, too, since it’s within the Annandale HS area, though it’s a school and not a pyramid.

Why? They were going to have a new regional superintendent in any case with Zuluaga retiring.

Boyd is terrible so I would be pissed if that was my region. If you have had ever dealt with special Ed- she is the worst.

Have you personally worked with her? Principals have nothing but respect for her. They’re actually quite upset that she is leaving sped because she’s smart and gets things done. She inherited a mess and has spent the last 2.5 years dealing with all things COVID. We finally got through COVID and then had to deal with compensatory services. None of those things were created by her. She inherited everything.

There are a lot of issues with special education with the greatest one being figuring out how to staff schools with a shrinking pool of qualified teachers. That’s not a problem she or FCPS created. That’s the reality all across the country right now. Don’t complain about Boyd leading region 6. Instead ask what’s going to happen with the special services department.
