'No Pee Zone' sign on the grass between sidewalk and road = Ugly neighbors

In DC row houses you "own" to your front door but need to maintain the front walk and tree boxes. You can literally come home and the city will have dug up your entire front yard -- brick and all between sidewalk and house. They are supposed to return it to the way it was but if you have plantings. Gone.

Not sure about other parts of the city since we have only owned row houses on the Hill.

This is true in many jurisdictions. Homeowners do not own that strip between sidewalk and the road. And also the first few feet of your actual yard is not yours either. Any resident that has had new sidewalks put in knows this. We live in CCDC.

The signs asking you to pick up are fine and realistic.

Guess what kills all the plant life in the box? Dog pee. And once me dog pees there, the entire neighborhood of dogs has to pee there just to mark it.

Dogs have destroyed part of my yard. I like my neighbors so I don’t say much. But yes, dogs can be trained not to pee certain places. Owners are just lazy and think everyone adores their canine.

Do you live in the city? Preferably somewhere like Dupont or Adams Morgan? Logan? There is literally nowhere for them to pee outside of these little dirt patches. It's actually the polite place to let them go instead of someone's yard or a space that has been manicured with flowers or grass. Big area of mulch outside of an apartment building? That's fair game. It's not laziness or entitlement. Where would you suggest they go? People don't have yards.

Get off my lawn…that’s not really my lawn.

Yep. It's called the public right of way. Owned by the same entity that owns the road. People perceive it as belonging to them, but they don't. It's a very hard concept for some to grasp.

If only he had a literate owner. Poor puppy.

This board had some hate for me when one of my neighbors did this and scolded me for my dog using public space e.g. maintained by the HOA and outside if her fence.

People are crazy.

I have a mind to pull that piece of crap signage up and toss it in to the other part of your yard.

It’s called the tree lawn. And I think they are within their rights to not have to look at urine stains in the grass in front of their home. As you say, they maintain it. This is part of the maintenance.

We do not have a dog and don’t like dogs. We have kids. Many people don’t like kids. When I take my kids to the park I don’t let them jump on you or piss and poop on your lawn. They are trained. Train your dog to piss and poop on your lawn. Then take your dog for a walk.
You’re right. Your dog is free to crap on my lawn and then dig up my lawn trying to bury it. You are absolutely right. Why not, everyone else does.
If you don’t train your dog, I will.

Before I'll allow you to train my dog, I'll need references from the birds you've trained not to poop on your lawn, as well as squirrels you've trained not to pee on your property.

Not OP but agree. Not my favorite thing but most owners clean up and as noted that strip doesn’t belong to them. The signs attract male dogs, so it defeats the purpose.

How does your male dog know the sign asks them not to pee. The sign could say it was chemically treated. Can your dog read? Do female dogs piss on the lawn because they can’t read?

My dog cannot read. I don’t allow him to pee on a lawn but will let him on that strip of the other side of the sidewalk that doesn’t belong to the owner. If there is a sign there, he is drawn to it. Some females mark as well. Not sure if they can read, my experience is limited to males.

My female cannot read but can pee on command. She only poops in our own yard when no one is looking.

Are you serious? This is the mentality of people who own an animal and walk their animal pick up its poop and let it pee wherever the thing wants. Do you let your animal lick your face after it licks its ass?
Do you let your dog in your house and give it Huggies and kissies after it’s been on surfaces that have been chemically treated?
Dog owners think their animal is human.

I bet you feel virtuous. Like in a, “I’ll show them” kind of way. All animals pee and poop.
Go you! Moron.

This board is precisely why I planted numerous plants that are dog allergens in my garden. You guys are jerks and have no respect for other people’s property. You let my dog in my garden, he’ll hopefully get what he deserves

Would you have a problem if I brought my toddler over to pee on your plants? Because he would love to.

I wouldn’t defend the public easement from your toddler. I don’t plant anything there because it’s not my property.
