Going on a trip is not what people mean by mental health day. You’re giving teachers a bad name, OP.

Nope. They earned that time so it's theirs to do with it what they want.

What? I hope you are very young and just haven’t learned how to be a professional yet. You are certainly entitled. My niece has this attitude.

It’s not accurate, by the way. If you check your organization’s policies, sick leave can only be used for certain things. A trip to NYC is not one of them.

Mental health is a personal thing. I can take a mental health day wherever I want.

Americans used to care about policies, and norms, and agreements. Presidents, Congressional leaders, and many others have showed us that all that matters is what you can get away with.

And I've decided that that will apply to me, too. I don't care what you strangers who are rarely in schools think. My students succeed. I'm in my classroom more than many colleagues are in theirs.

If you're missing assignments and critical content, I do have an issue with that. You have all summer (and don't give me crap about not . . . . I know LOTs and lots and lots of teachers and they do nothing but hang all summer, which is FINE btw. But their not training and doing lesson plans like the blathering I hear on here).

No one care about you or your AP DD.....and we will give you whatever "crap" we want. I'm sure you know LOTS of teachers(wink wink)just shut it.

This thread shows how truly important parents think they are.

I will not shut it. And you couldn't make me if you tried. You can "wink wink" all you want, and look silly so. But, what I've said is an absolute fact.

And as far as "not caring" that just shows what an unprofessional a-hole you are. So revel in it if you must. Just know that's what you are.

No, it shows that this particular teacher is woefully unprofessional and doing a disservice to her colleagues by claiming to represent them here.

I'm not OP and I'm the poster who mentioned Boston and Florida earlier today.

I think there are a handful of teachers just in this thread standing with OP without hesitation.

Not PP. Some of you think you can get us fired for...using our contractual leave days. That's a power and importance some of you think you have that you don't.

Who is cheating their leave? They have the time and use it.

Sick leave is for when you are sick. Not when you want to travel to NYC.

Sure it is.

I'm sick of kids. And parents. And admins. And colleagues like you. I'm on the verge of exhaustion and a panic attack. I'm going to take a mental health day.

And I'm going to be wherever I please on that day. There's nothing you can do. Feel free to think that you're more professional than some of your fellow teachers. It does not matter.

Those that can’t do, teach.

Yes, dear, we know what the policy says. It’s irrelevant. Nothing will happen to the teacher. Sorry to burst your smug, indignant little bubble.
