Get someone to re-read your emails, then. But it's perfectly fine if you don't email parents regularly. My children's best teachers did not communicate with parents. But they were AMAZING teachers. Go be your amazing self in the classroom.

And what is the consequence?

You should have personal ethics.

Zero problem with "personal days" at the end of the year. My DD's "core class" day was today and b/c of AP exams, spent all day watching movies and hanging out. She's a 10th grade honors/AP student.

If you're missing assignments and critical content, I do have an issue with that. You have all summer (and don't give me crap about not . . . . I know LOTs and lots and lots of teachers and they do nothing but hang all summer, which is FINE btw. But their not training and doing lesson plans like the blathering I hear on here).

Well, now you've gone and poked the bear.

I’m a nanny and I’m taking 2 planned ‘sick’ days this summer. I told my boss in advance it was for health reasons. I never take sick days, but seeing my boss loaf around for 3 years ‘working from home’ has made me decide I deserve two days of getting paid to do nothing! I’m taking one day to chill and relax, then another day at the end of summer to go on a 3 day weekend holiday. Zero guilt!

+1 we all get that teaching can be tough and it’s understandable to take the occasional mental health day to regroup, but you should not be using sick leave for a planned trip in any profession and are risking being fired by doing so.

Right except, it's really not that hard to proofread an email. Don't we expect our students to do the same? I would not judge a teacher's performance by the grammar in their emails. But if you want to be taken as a true professional, multiple typos don't help your case. I think just about every profession requires writing, and people judging that writing.

In my district I only need to produce a doctor’s note after something like day 4 of an absence.
