Probably GDS. Which is a lot more D1 athletes than I would have expected. Good for them! |
Not true. I am very familiar with ECNL soccer and some of the very best teams nationally have been from the DMV over the last 10 years, and almost every player has also played on their high school team. |
With boys the top players aren't allowed to play for their HS team, MLSnext prevents it. But, boys soccer isn't something most schools are recruiting for given the sheer number of boys that play high level Club soccer in the area. They don't need to recruit--the incoming classes have enough kids that just get in academically. There were over 120 boys that came out for soccer tryouts last year, and maybe 1 was actually recruited. |
I meant to say that only 2 of the 8 boys going to play college soccer next year played for the high school team. And 1 did not play all 4 years. |
However, they were absolutely not recruited from their HS. |
Really? The DMV very best teams nationally? Not even close. The DMV teams/clubs are not considered strong regionally let alone nationally. |
To get tipped by a coach at Williams, Amherst, or Middlebury you need to be an impressive athlete. Swarthmore and Haverford have a lot of attrition in upper years (or at least that was the case when I was looking at schools a billion years ago) and a lot of kids study abroad so maybe a bit easier to get tipped as an athlete. Pomona also has strong athletics for D3. |
No, no, no. California, Texas, and the New York metro area are generally the strongest areas for sports. |
and Florida |
WCAC is hands down the strongest high school athletic league in the country. |
Just off the top of my head . . . McLean ENCL U18 (birth year 2000) - ECNL National Champion in 2018 McLean ECNL U18 (birth year 2001) - ECNL National Runner-Up McLean also had two national championship teams about 5 years before that (coached by Clyde Watson). These are all girls' teams. |
For girls soccer, CA and TX are consistently very strong. However, the DMV has produced some very strong teams, including several from McLean ECNL and what used to be FCV. |
+1. PP is also just wrong. Just this year there are 4 D1 commits that I know of. 1 Football (3 more recruited and offered D1 but opted D2 or D3 for higher academics) 1 Girls bball 1 Girls soccer 1 Volleyball This is JUST D1. There are 9-10 more D2/3. I feel like I’m missing at least one. Full disclosure, I have a kid on one of the teams. Junior class 2 girls soccer already committed to GTown Sophomore class Footballer 5 D1 offers already Girl BBall 3 D1 offers Freshman class Boys Bball 1 D1 offer |

PP again. The Maret committed D1s that I know of above are Yale, Northwestern, Colgate, and USC (Southern Cal) in case anyone wanted to add ones I missed.
I’m hoping the new AD does a better job showcasing that Maret is not a Burke type school when it comes to athletics. Maybe showcase signing days? No knock to Burke but they place rather well for the size they are. |
Georgetown Day Academy? |
