How many recruited athletes are there per class?

I’m hoping the new AD does a better job showcasing that Maret is not a Burke type school when it comes to athletics. Maybe showcase signing days?

No knock to Burke but they place rather well for the size they are.

+ Dartmouth for Maret and several excellent D3 schools, which, contrary to what PP said above, are not easy to be recruited to

DP. Thanks. 2022 D1 commits that I remember are Yale, Brown, UVA, and Boston College plus the D3 ones.

I’m the PP, having had two athletes go through the process, focused on D1 and NESCAC only (both went D1), the skill level at even the top NESCACS just wasn’t as close. Sorry, but there’s a big difference.

The primary point remains. PP said Maret has 1-2 D1 every now and then when they average more like 4-5 per year (with 75-80 seniors).

And? Different kids choose different paths for different reasons. I’ve seen kids choose D3 where they are loved over D1 were they likely wouldn’t play. Pp said it wasn’t easy to be recruited to the top academic D3 schools, and it isn’t. They didn’t say it required the same athletic skill as their counterparts in D1.

It’s not even close within D1 either, fwiw. Kid who goes D1 to Bucknell isn’t in the same league as the one at Alabama. Are only P5 D1 schools worth noting?

+1

In my kid's sport, the top D3 schools would kill plenty of D1 schools. AU is D1 for example, and would get destroyed by the top 15 or so (if not more D3) schools in my kid's sport. So maybe this depends on sport, maybe it depends on other factors. But the point remains that plenty of D3 schools are extremely difficult to be recruited at and are more difficult to be recruited at than some D1 schools. Of course, the top D1 schools are at a different level, but that wasn't the original point being disputed.

Adding to the Maret post. The Junior class has 4 girls that are already D1 commits 2 soccer and 2 lax, and at least 15 other kids who will play college sports in that class. The original poster was way off in terms of numbers.

Wow. Is that random or was there a lot of recruiting?

Majority were there before high school. 3 of the 4 D1 junior girls have been there since lower school. Football always makes the numbers bigger since they have a group of kids each year who go on to play in college. This all being said the majority of Maret’s teams are kids who just play for fun.

Maybe not all D1 but when you include D2 and D3 all that what to continue running in college go somewhere. It’s the best HS program in the country. Just check out the Penn Relay results. The school is getting to be top level academically too. It used to be a school as a backup for not getting in the Big 3 but has significantly changed. The only issue I have is that they really recruit kids! They are at track meets and basketball games and everywhere else looking for talent!

Bullis has a 9th grader running 45 flat at Penn in the 4 x 400 - Olympic finalist talent. Likely best athlete in the country.
