Older neighbors

Sounds like you don’t go anywhere all weekend either.

When I was 50 my youngest of four was 20 and already in college. You know a lot of old parents.

Not really. 50 with a 13 year old (youngest) LOTS of moms in his class are 50+.

50 with an 11 year old. There are a lot of us.

It’s the DC area. Pretty gosh darn common around here. I’m 54 with a 13yo and a 10yo.

Same here.

OP needs to expand their interests beyond curtain-twitching.

Yes! OP you need to realize the benefits of this situation. I’m in a townhouse complex with a fair number of retirees, one of whom is my neighbour who has the facing patio to me. She refers to it as her Spy Balcony. I’ve never once had a package go missing to porch pirates. It’s genius!

I'm in my 50s and figure I can buy an artist's entire back catalogue for less than the price of a ticket to many concerts. I can't be bothered with the crush at concerts for younger artists and I want to hear the music, not the bad singing of the person standing next to me. I'm short so might not be able to see over tall people. I'm also trying to protect my hearing.

I went to an REM concert in 2004, and was one of the few people without grey hair. I wonder what the demographic will be like at the Cure. While I feel like I did when I was 18, seeing how much Robert Smith has aged brings it home to me that I have aged that much too.

By 50-52 everyone in my circle was an empty nester and we didn't marry until after grad schools.

Like 24 or 25? That's well below the US average marriage age?

What a truly stupid question!

Who are these people? We regularly have posts where the poster is assumed to be an adult but the post seems to have been written by a 12 year old.

I’m mid forties. It’s a lot to go to work all week and then spend the whole weekend running errands. We live in an urban area (yet with no public transit—I miss DC) where going anywhere on a weekend means fighting traffic, crowds, and battles to park.

If I could stay home all weekend I would, and as soon as I can, you bet I will!

Nosy neighbor you are. Why do you even care what these people do, they’re not bothering you.

My 57 yo gf and I went to a Richard Thompson concert a couple years ago and we seemed to be the youngest people there. Young than Richard Thompson, too, I think. But man, can that guy play!

OP should be glad these people stay home so that the traffic is not even worse than it already is on weekends. The older folks are smart to go out on weekdays. That's one of the big perks of retirement.

Not my circle. Most people had their LAST kid around 38-39. So I am 52 with a 15-year old and 17-year old. 3 more years until the last one leaves for college. I have friends that have kids from 12-25 who are similar age. Then I have some neighbors my age whose kids graduated from college and are back living at home while they go to grad school.

I’ve been to a lot of 50th bday parties over the last 2 years and nobody was a full empty nest—a kid or two were still at home.

My crew (dc) the women were around 28 when they got married (after grad school and already employed) and the men 28-30. Most waited a few years to have kids. Kids started between 32-35 for firstborn.
