What a piece of trash.

Jelly much? LMM is laughing all the way to the bank...

Oh I'm sure. He's very talented. Just because I don't like this particular work, doesn't mean I don't admire the many talents that combine to create it.

If everyone loves it there has to be a few contrarians

Don't call it Hamilton then, just some historicalally inaccurate musical.
I enjoy lots of fiction but the way some people cling to this as educational is crazy.

Good grief.

Knowing that many aspects of the musical were inaccurate or sensationalized for the purpose of entertainment made me get a bunch of books that we could read together about Hamilton’s life, the founding fathers etc. I also got books about life for regular people/kids during the early days of America, which were super interesting for them. Now my kids (5 and 7) point out the inaccuracies when we listen to the songs or watch clips. The musical set in motion a great journey of learning for us. I realized I find the debates the founding fathers had super interesting, and I’ve been able to share what I’ve learned with my kids and explain how we are still debating things like state’s rights vs power of fed govt. We have also made family trips to Mt Vernon, Monticello etc. I can’t imagine that they would have had such a sustained interest in these topics and history without the songs, etc.

Lol I am sure your kids are really absorbing all of this at ages 5 anf 7.

The whole point is that listening to the music and watching parts of the show has sparked an ongoing conversation, and they absorb in bits and pieces as things are repeated/ reinforced. My 7 year old has absolutely read multiple kids books on Hamilton, George Washington, and King George (eg Who was…). My 5 year old asks the same questions over and over again but just enjoys being a part of the conversation. I’m sorry that you can’t fathom this. It’s been super fun for our family.

For what it's worth, I hate historically and accurate movies as well like JFK. So I agree that Hamilton was a big disappointment

So stupid. I'm glad we're being open about it finally.

The songs are about as good as an elementary school class making up a rap song for parent's night or 5th grade graduation.

A lot of musicals are based on other things (I once heard Sondheim say that is because a musical involves so much collaboration between person doing the book and the person doing the music/lyrics so it is easier if they have a common point of reference).

You’re in for a treat, PP. Parade is SO GOOD. Makes me cry every time I listen to the soundtrack.

I also love Hamilton. Those of you who do not don’t need to buy tickets. Also, I have news for you about Shakespeare’s Julius Cesar. And Richard III. And…

This is surely one of the most accurate musicals based on real events ever. I mean it’s incredibly faithful to the research for a freaking musical. I understand not liking it, but this complaint is really really REALLY stupid.

Do you Hamilton haters enjoy Come From Away? Or does it bother you that it’s not someone reading a transcription of the events in question on a blank stage and includes (gasp) artistic interpretation.

Regardless of accuracy, it’s self-important, which is yawn-inducing.

No, really. It’s stuffed with factual tidbits that are true. Which actually would be a very fair criticism of the play. So so so many facts thrown at you at a million miles a minute, at the expense of the theatrical experience.

And Cats, JFC. Cats don’t sing.
