Hamilton historically and accurate and a letdown

I wish Hamilton was more historically accurate since my kids are obsessed with it. We've read through all of the inaccuracy and it just bothers me that they put that much time and energy into a play, but we're so off base on so many historical facts. I get that some creative liberties will be taken but I guess it just is frustrating considering the large audience that it has. They really could have done something special and accurate to really shine a light on American history.

I feel validated. I thought I’m alone on this one.

What a silly, inaccurate production.

You mean the fact that LaFayette, Thomas Jefferson, Washington and Burr were not black for starters?

What, specifically, are you bothered about?

How about picking up a history book instead of relying on entertainment to teach you

Musical, not play. Good grief, He got your researching Hamilton didn't he? The main things he got right: Immigrant who came here, fought against the British, Became the first Secretary of Treasurer, Had a lot of flaws and an affair and was murdered by Aaron Burr. Plus it was entertaining.

Oh I'm sure. He's very talented. Just because I don't like this particular work, doesn't mean I don't admire the many talents that combine to create it.

My daughter loved it and it spurred her to read the biography of Hamilton. It’s art not school!

My kids love Hamilton and it has actually been a great way for us to learn. Knowing that many aspects of the musical were inaccurate or sensationalized for the purpose of entertainment made me get a bunch of books that we could read together about Hamilton’s life, the founding fathers etc. I also got books about life for regular people/kids during the early days of America, which were super interesting for them. Now my kids (5 and 7) point out the inaccuracies when we listen to the songs or watch clips. The musical set in motion a great journey of learning for us. I realized I find the debates the founding fathers had super interesting, and I’ve been able to share what I’ve learned with my kids and explain how we are still debating things like state’s rights vs power of fed govt. We have also made family trips to Mt Vernon, Monticello etc. I can’t imagine that they would have had such a sustained interest in these topics and history without the songs, etc.
