And why didn't Malaysia scramble their military to search for the plane? even though he turned his transponder off, there are other ways to find the plane via radar, right? I've always wondered this, even after 9/11. shouldn't we put measures in place t prevent that from happening now?

Seems like the source for that is the mysterious guy the French survivor met? Even if the US wouldn't officially confirm it I'd think that's another fact that could probably be proven via open source. They have to take off and land from somewhere - and we only have 31 of them?

I first posted that I think the pilot did it, and I still think that. Lots of reasons, but one of the main ones is that no one has come forward in 10 years with any knowledge that has panned out. You can shut a few people up here and there, but not the amount of people you would need to keep quiet if Russians landed the plane in Kazakhstan or it was shot down. Neither of those things happens in a vacuum and someone or many someones would have come forward.

The Atlantic article really disputes this. Pilot had some issues. The Malaysian government actually had the biggest incentive to cover things up - I believe it's a gov't owned airline and they did not want people thinking their citizens/pilots are nuts.

What issues did they pilot have?

Also, why would he fly for 7 hours with a dead cabin, wearing an oxygen mask and pissing himself waiting for the plane to run out of gas so he could nosedive into the ocean? It makes zero logical sense. Why would the FBI wait nearly 2 years to release his flight data? Why did Intan, the Malaysian flight attendant who lost her husband, say that he was well-liked and none of the staff believed it?

Pilot: Look, he could have done something, but I do not believe it was related suicide. If he was as beloved as Intan and the Malaysian air guy said, I think Florence's theory is best. He would have ignored the commands to turn around because with his communications system down, he couldn't check with Malaysia. He probably knew something was very, very wrong and tried to handle it as best as he could.

Florence's theory: This sounds most likely to me. The cargo that was escorted and not run is troubling, I hadn't heard of it before. Her theory sounds most plausible. And, even if the US wasn't involved why didn't the US tell everyone where MH370 was since the AWOKs were there. I think her theory about it going right past the Butterworth airbase and not being detected makes sense. A pp asked why would the US sacrifice people to do this? Sadly, they probably thought there were few Americans on board, and second they convinced themselves that more people would would get hurt than those on the plane. Or, it was related to something else. Again, a plance doesn't vanish into thin air. The US has to know something. People also seemed to ignore the woman from Texas who had found evidence of something on the satellite images and what other pilots had seen.

Still, none of this answers where is the plane? Only one piece recovered has a serial number that matches. Don't get me started on the yahoo who shows up on the beach and "holy smokes!" there is a plane piece, and another, and another. Nope. This is one the greatest, saddest mysteries of our time.

You're mixing a lot of different things together here. The AWACS theory only makes sense if MH370 was the only plane in the vicinity to have their comms jammed, which would have happened well after they made the turn south. And she said there were two AWACS. Each AWACS carries a crew of 31 and they could not have downed the plane on its own. I don't buy that more than 60 people know that a passenger aircraft was shot down and no one has talked. I found this whole theory really confusing.

As far as murder/suicide, since we don't know what actually happened, it's entirely possible that the passengers fought back without success. Since 9/11 the pilot can lock the cockpit door and prevent any entry. And while the pilot's family and colleagues say they didn't think suicide was possible there could be a lot of different reasons for that - plain old denial, cultural norms, saving face, the pilot hiding his issues. I do think the FBI should explain (and maybe they have) why the flight simulator data wasn't released for two years, but that clue really ties it all together for me and explains what happened. Or it's time travel and aliens and the plane will show up again someday.

I don't know if the AWACS could just jam one plane because I'm not up on tech capabilities. I just think it makes the most logical sense given the lack of phone communication. What else could possibly explain it?

I just did a Google search and it says that a AWACS crew is 15 people, so you're off. Besides if the AWACS were in the area, wouldn't they know something even if they weren't responsible?

A few beefy guys and a carry on bag or fire extinguisher would break down the door. What about timing? The co-pilot had about 45 seconds, 1 minute max to go to bathroom or retrieve something. Another 45 seconds to minute before he's panicking because he's not let in. Everyone in first class would see he's locked out. Again, why were people not calling? They were a minute away from continental Malaysian.

I don't find it funny to joke about aliens -- we know people who lost friends on board. There are people who have been grieving for 9 years who want answers. Planes don't disappear in this day and age.

To get to any of the rest of that theory you first have to establish there were planes there. And ok it's a crew of 15 - the contention is that there were two AWACS. I still don't buy that 30 people or more have failed to come forward in 10 years. This is a really elaborate theory involving a lot of moving parts and it's just not substantiated.

My husband and I watched the documentary last night and found it very interesting.

I still believe that it is MOST likely that the pilot intentionally crashed the plane. BUT there are a lot of weird things about this case.

Why did he fly back across Malaysia and then into the South Indian Ocean?

The consensus (in all of the scenarios) seems to be that passengers and crew would have needed to be incapacitated by depressurizing the cabin. Oxygen masks have 15 minutes of oxygen. That gives plenty of time for people to send a text. That would have needed to happen very early on. I am shocked that not one text went through, and I am guessing this is a big reason why the families feel so unsettled about what happened.

It's not giving false hope to people. There are so many holes in every theory that people are trying to piece fragments and logic together to solve a crushing mystery. It is clear there is a cover up of some sort. Planes don't vanish into thin air.

When I lived in China it quickly becomes clear that people don't trust the government. They don't trust corporations. They barely trust each other after the Cultural Revolution. The documentary shows how little they trusted Malaysian authorities. Living there was eye opening for me because I think Americans tend to trust the government. We tend to believe that things will work out in the end. But, the US is responsible for terrible atrocities, even against Americans. I find it very, very hard to believe that the US doesn't know anything about the plane. Inmarsat has a business relationship with the US government. The US sat on information for 2 years. The US hasn't been forthcoming, at the very least.

According to Netflix, the pilot was doing home flight simulations of this exact scenario, flying off course, and running out of fuel over the SCS. They didn't spend a lot of time on it, but seems like there's the story right there.

They found the signal, but it doesn't mean they recovered the box. I read the signal was too deep for divers to safely locate the ship. It's at the bottom of a a deep ocean. We won't ever recover anything substantial.

If China found it they certainly wouldn't hand it over if there's any truth in Florence's theory.

But, also if they found the ping/black box, that would mean they would also find the plane nearby.

When the plane went missing, went off course and diverted from the intended flight path why wasn't fighter jets sent out?

None of this makes any sense. I think we are the only ones who don't know what happened to this plane, the US, Russia, Malaysia and China all know.

Vietnam didn't notice or didn't care that the airplane didn't enter their airspace. That's who should have first noticed.
