It's really weird how obsessed they are with trans people. Most of them don't even know a trans person. At most they might know of someone that's trans in their neighborhood but they aren't friends with them. How many of those people have made an effort to speak to and be friends with a transgender person? How many of them are just out there hating people? They're obsessed. The number of gay men are much greater than even the total number of all trans people (trans men/women/NB). Because of all the hate about trans people in right wing circles right now, they can't shut up about it.

Cruz isn’t being hyperbolic. He’s saying that trans people have a mental illness and should be pilots.

Yes he is. Saying transgender pilots are witches who don’t know how to stop a plane from crashing is absolute bigoted hyperbole that doesn’t even make any sense. Transgender pilots would get the same training as any other pilot, and presumably you learn that in commercial flight school. Transgender pilots presumably also go through the same psychological testing to screen for mental illness as all pilots do, so there’s no need to panic about transgender pilots specifically suiciding the plane into the Atlantic or whatever.

I have been reading a new book about the QAnon cult. So much of the cultural issues the GOP discuss have their roots in QAnon. It’s pretty mind blowing. I didn’t realize just how much of that cult is shaping national political dialog.

I assume that you mean Will Sommer's book which I am also reading. You are absolutely correct that there is little difference between QAnon and Republicans these days.

Notice that in Cruz's quote about transgender pilots he referred to them as "witches". In other words, supernatural, blood drinkers. It won't be long before Cruz is raiding Comet Pizza's basement.

I’ve thought that for years. It’s interesting the different timelines people have for marking different points, but then I have the “advantage” of having an extensive Republican family and childhood friend web in which I actually got to listen to every day people say some pretty crap stuff about various people (the gays! liberals! feminists!) and policies and to see that they weren’t just mugging for the cameras, they were just really bad people with really bad beliefs. For example: “bootstraps” is not an answer for what people should do when businesses make billions and their employees require government assistance, which these people then shun them for. If you’re working two jobs and being responsible and still can’t make ends meet, that’s on the system, not the people.

Anyway yeah regressives are bigots. The only minorities they care about sometimes are the ones they personally know.

Republicans have been unhinged and mean-spirited for a depressingly long time. It's just out in the open now. For instance, if I mention the time that Rush Limbaugh called 13 year old Chelsea Clinton the White House dog you can almost set your watch to when someone will come in and point out, "Limbaugh actually never said that," without acknowledging that he held up a picture of 13 year old Chelsea Clinton after he stated that he heard there was a new White House dog.

They've all been terrible people for a really long time.

PS - Ted Cruz isn't mentally ill. He is intelligent and highly educated. That should make it worse.

Seriously, I recommend this book. I didn’t know all that much about QAnon and it’s quite startling how much of the GOP rhetoric comes from it.
