What is "the left"?
How are these institutions(?) ceding to the left?

come on, be serious

which of them could you possibly dispute?

All of them.

Face it, the right wants a world without science or facts and as a result demonize fact based insitutions - the media, medicine, tech, education...they want everyone worshiping Jesus and ignorant to anything but whatever ;dear leader" says.

so to be clear, you're not disputing that the left dominates these sectors, which are obviously all in hot pursuit of eternal scientific truth, no matter what it does to profits

What you are calling "the left" is what most normal people would call "people interest in facts and truths"

And per the other post, the people who own medicine, who own media and who own Tech are right leaning. Facts really do matter.

if you say so

by "own" do you mean "currently control and make hiring decisions" or do you mean "got in early on the business side and are now very rich individuals"?

Yoou think Elon Musk founded and grew Twitter?

No, both, some of them bought the platforms, other got in early - in ether case, they ultimately control the outlets. You don't think by their testimony that the Murdoch's don't control what goes on Fox "News"?

so "Tech" as a whole isn't dominated by the left because Elon owns Twitter? staffed by mostly-left employees?

and "Journalism" isn't dominated by the left, because of Murdoch?

I think in terms of statistics on the employees in those industries - not the individuals at the helm of a handful of companies

is "Education" not dominated by the left, because Liberty University is one of 2500 degree-granting schools in the country?

The left are those with left of center politics. Traditionally speaking those who prefer less hierarchical structures, compared to the right which prefers hierarchical structures. Going back to when those who supported the monarchy sat on the seats in the right, and those who supported more liberty/revolution sat on the left.

Most are ceding to the left by allowing for the delegitimization of right wing viewpoints and sources, excluding right wingers from acceptable discourse, and taking the position that right wing views are illegitimate and makes right leaning people bad people.

The left, because many want to change the world, set the limits for acceptable discourse. The right, because they tend to value rules, over results, tend to operate within those limits.

As someone who isn't originally from this country its pretty interesting to see.

Exactly what rules were being followed when the right wing taxonomy in this country fomented and created a myth around the 2020 election that resulted in a coup attempt?

What rules were being followed when the right yawned at Jared and Ivanka's nepotism positions in the white house that resulted in their raping the US treasury and bilking foriegn countries to their personal benefit?

What rules were being followed when Senator McConnell used on standard to negate a legitimate SCOTUS appointment from Obama before the 2016 election and then another standard to slam Amy Comey Barrett through the Senate in record time before the 2020 election?

You want to talk about how the right follows rules, you are gaslighting everyone reading your words.

Try again.

Let's talk about right leaning tech titans like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Peter Theil, to name three who have used their platform and money to undermine US and global democracy.

Okay, let’s say I believe all of that - I basically do

What I don’t believe is that those facts by themselves mean that industries staffed and run mostly by left leaning people are now somehow transformed

E.g. a bunch of big left news outlets being rolled up - is still a bunch of big left news outlets.

BTW, re the medical piece I linked to, the point was not that it’s bad to have more people of color in medicine (although that’s a pretty predictable ad hominem and this is an anonymous forum, so expectations are low) - the point is that it’s an example of a very influential organization in that sector explicitly dedicated to left goals and using approved lingo to describe them - thus supporting someone else’s assertion here that the right has “ceded” - or in any case does not control - that sector

This only applies of course if you define the left as the mainstream corporate backed left - not the Occupy crowd

The left is anyone who isn’t a MAGA these days so it’s hardly useful terminology for this thread. Just throwing it out there.

I have an idea that's only slightly orthogonal to this thread

might it not be the case that people who are "yay the left" OR "yay the right" are just sort of disordered as a group? missing some critical capacity? too insecure or unserious?

and everyone's goal should be someone who looks at both and says "ugh"

Referring to people in the nomenclature of how they want to be referred to is usually called respect. Why are you opposed to that?

Well, we know now that lies were told about Covid’s origins, about it’s true death rates, about vaccines. I’m inclined to think now that there’s something about the 2020 election that’s hidden as well

Well yeah, that’s the vast majority of democrats. Hence the recent electoral wins.
