I disagree with Rowling on trans-issues *and* I think Rowling's critics are dishonest

That will be a good podcast. Will listen to it when it comes out next week.

I’m not even going to join the debate in this thread, because the pendulum is swinging in society and it doesn’t matter what selfish, delusional men like OP think.

Women have suffered terribly from this ideology, manufactured by misogynists and society is finally waking up.

It might be worth it if you have a boy in high schoo,l who wants to study engineering in college, to start claiming they're a girl. Can get some sweet scholarships and internship opportunities for women in STEM on top of diversity initiatives for trans in STEM.

Then shed the image later after you graduate. Better than ID as a girl for a few years in order to avoid student loans and get bonus diversity points for internship opportunities.

I think this is likely. It's totally naive to think that this is the ONE ISSUE hustlers wont exploit.

I’m going to listen to it as well.

What a strange take about the OP.

Not sure why you commented if you're unwilling to read the tgrey, though. That's a strange way to have a discussion.

From which ideology?

I saw someone on Instagram declaring that Bethany Hamilton was transphobic when what she actually said was that she didn’t agree with World Surf League rules allowing trans women to compete in female divisions. That is not the same thing as being transphobic.

FWIW I think JK has dug her heels too far into the trans issue and I don’t necessarily agree with her on it, but I’m not surprised at all that the internet is taking it wildly out of context.

+1. Although I will also say that Rowling has done herself no favors by aligning herself with people who transphobic, such as Matt Walsh (who also happens to be a racist and misogynist).

There'es really no one else left who is willing to speak for women. You can say that she's aligned herself with bad people - but all the "good" people are only willing to speak in favor of transwomen, not women.

FWIW, I have friends who say the same thing, that JKR is bad and wrong because she retweets stuff from bad people. But who else is speaking for women? Who else should JKR retweet? And what does that say about the good people?

The bolded is just an indication that this is another example of right wing manufactured outrage. Twitter is not real life. And if you want to "speak for women" then you probably shouldn't praise someone who actually hates them.

JKR getting dropped from Hogwarts, banned from mention, etc. are just manufactured outrage?

I'm not sure she, or any of the Harry Potter stars who are awkwardly trying to distance themselves from her, would agree with you.

Hogwarts isn't a real school....

Hogwarts Legacy, not the fictional school.

That game is wildly successful. Trans people are so powerful.

Also, I want to be supportive of trans people. Sometimes I'm not at all sure how to reconcile these things.

An (admittedly imperfect) analogy. I think society should be supportive of people with disabilities. But I don't think this means we should eliminate vision requirements for a bus driver.

Similarly, I have no problem forbidding
1. Transwomen working in a rape crisis center (such as that funded by JK Rowling)
2. Transwomen who have committed sex crimes in a women's prison
3. Transwomen in women's sports

Inclusion is important, but it is not the only thing that is important.

Disagree mostly with transwonen in women’s sports. D1 varsity sport’s & professional level stuff, I can see. But at lower levels of competition, I don’t think trans women and girls should be excluded. I know 4 biological boys transitioning to girls and honestly they are unathletic. If they want to get involved with sports, they’d be way more comfortable with other girls & wouldn’t be depriving other girls of very much.

The reviews have been pretty lackluster. Yet again, reviewers have a different opinion than players.

How young do they have to be? There are multiple high school girls who have lost access to university athletic scholarships because they raced against trans girls who are unquestionably faster in high school. That is, in my view, a miscarriage of justice.

Track is literally a zero sum game. When one wins, another loses. And qualifying races start the first year of high school.

Rowling has more balls than all self-appointed trans advocates combined.
