If you choose to be an ostrich, I wish you well. The school was given the certificates and told to distribute them immediately. They did not do that. Clearly some people didn’t know until they received the certificates and we have ONE person who happened upon the information from a rarely checked email. Yes, people may be upset that there was no fanfare but that’s NOT the only reason they are upset.

Most high schools can recognize the 10 to 15 NMSF out of 700 kids and 20 or so commended students and have it be no biggie.

At TJ, roughly half the kids fall in one of those categories, so to honor them at a pep rally would leave half the senior class in the stands. Clearly a different situation.

Now, should the kids have been told in a timely fashion to include on their college apps? Absolutely.

But also, every FCPS high schooler, and certainly every TJ student or those deserving of NM recognition, should be regularly checking their school email and not need Mommy or Daddy to notify them of something like this.

This is important news. Very unfair and cruel. Imagine not celebrating athletes and keeping information away from them about their achievements that they could use to get into the school they wanted or get a scholarship. Imagine not celebrating a nationally-ranked runner or swimmer at your school. These administrators have second-rate hearts.

+1. DP. Whatever she was, during COVID she greatly raised her stature by becoming a far right FCPS critic of the featured on Fox News and shows to the right of Fox News variety. TJ 2021 parent. And I don't think her stance on opening schools and some of the TJ admission changes was out of the mainstream. But she had the hysterical, Trumpian language and failure to deal with inconvenient facts thing going on. And she was also all over right wing media on the SB/ book banning thing and anti-trans stances and CRT.

So yes, she is MAGA. And yes, I don’t find her credible. I had a 2021 kid and he knew he was NM Commended in time for the 11/1 deadlines. And we have the letter somewhere. I don’t remember how he was informed. He missed NMSF by one index point, so we knew he’d be Commended, and getting the official paper wasn’t a shock. But we got it. Definitely no fanfare though.

So...because she supports Trump...her story isn't credible? It seems the TJ administration's response implies the veracity of her reporting. If you disagree with an aspect of her story, you should articulate that. Otherwise, it's just noise. Defining her by the political candidate she supports only means something in your own mind, and not necessarily to others. (I didn't vote for Trump, btw) Imagine if I called you a Bidenhumper? How stupid would I be to say that? It would add nothing to this discussion, other than to show that I'm stupid and inarticulate.

The principal is bigoted in not wanting to recognize the achievements of the mostly Asian kids and racist in thinking she has to protect the feelings of the TJ kids who aren’t recognized as either Semifinalists or Commended Students.
