+1. I love bacon as much as the next person, but I’ve never heard it described as healthier than a carby snack. How is it healthier?

It is pure protein. A Carby snack is like chips or cookies. Nope, let me snack on two or three pieces of bacon.

TIL cooked bacon has no fat, only protein

Do you have a source for this startling assertion?

I get a piece of aluminum foil just more than double my baking pan (ceramic coated aluminum cake pan). I put the foil in the bottom & up the corners, with the extra half length on one side. I put in the bacon strip by strip, then I very loosely fold over the top half of the aluminum foil. Depending how much time I have, I bake it at 350 or 400. I take out the pan every 10min or so, turn the corner of foil on the bottom of the open side into a spout and pour out the grease. Then flip the bacon and put it back, doing this until desired crispness is reached.

We also do it in the oven for ~18 minutes at 375 (regular bacon, not thick cut). The cooling rack always made a horrible mess, so we put it on aluminum foil and then transfer it to paper towels immediately after removing from the oven.

But then I read that aluminum foil is bad for you. What do other people use? I don't want to scrub a pan more than I have to.

Are those your only options? There are fruits, veggies with hummus, heck even a PBJ.

I don’t really care about you, but someday I will have to pay your Medicare bills, which is why I sort of care

I just wash the pan after using a spatula to move all the drippings below the cooking rack into a jar for other uses.

Anyone ever pop popcorn in bacon fat? Amazing!

I cook in a skillet. I used to do it in the oven, but it’s hard to clean up that way.

We cook in skillet. Inside tip - cut the bacon in half before you cook it. It hardly curls up at all and not as much flabby fatty parts.

For a small amount I cook it in the microwave. Larger amounts in the oven on a rack with a rimmed cookie sheet underneath that is fitted with parchment.

Oven is so easy.

Parchment paper 375 for 20 minutes comes out same every time.

I find it easier to get rid of the grease if it’s in a skillet

Microwave on a bacon plate is easier.

Anonymous wrote:Fat is not bad for you! The worst foods are labeled “low fat”. Plus all the processed foods that contain sugar.

I don’t have high cholesterol or a fatty liver.

“Fat” is non specific. Some fats are good for you, some aren’t. Saturated animal fat (bacon) and highly processed meats (bacon) are known to contribute to heart disease and gi cancers. I’m appalled you are feeding your family so much bacon on a regular basis OP. Gross

I put it on a broiling pan and stick it under the broiler, the grease is collected in the pan but not on the bacon.
