OP here. This is the hack video I saw which made me want to try frying in water. We cook on Sunday and snack on it the rest of the week. Much better for us than carby snacks.
|
| In a glass jar with a napkin over the lid in the microwave. Keeps the odors contained much better than stovetop cooking. I remove the bacon when still hot and flatten it out by laying my cleaver over it on the cutting board. I also save the fat to use as oil when cooking other stuff - got that bacon aroma. |

We have a lot of Costco bacon once a year at Christmas- my husband does it on the griddle/grill pan on our bbq outside. We are in So. Cal, though. |

On a plate with several paper towels on bottom and on top, then in the microwave.
The paper towels absorb all the fat. Bacon comes out crispy and perfect. No dishes, except a greasy plate for the dishwasher. |
| That’s how I cook the bacon, but it’s not “in water”, there is a bit of water at the start to prevent burning before bacon fat starts melting. So just put bacon, add a bit of water, cover and cook on low/medium low. But I may be do 1/2 lb bacon at a time. |
| What is a "carby snack"? A pear? |
You should try it and see OP. I like my bacon more crispy than tender, so the water method isn’t for me. |
Maybe there are 10 kids? |
+1 Love the easy clean up |
I'm in DC and this is what I do. I don't fry anything inside anymore due to smells and clean up. |
I just tried this in the microwave. No taste. Back to skillet. |
Same although I just use tinfoil. And we’ll just microwave precooked bacon a fair bit too. |
Agree- easier in oven |
What? We do 17-18 minutes total, in the oven. At 18 minutes it has not dark burned spots but it's so crisp it turns to delicious hearty bacon ash when you bite into it (my preferred crispness). You must be eating charred nothing by doubling the time. |
+1. I love bacon as much as the next person, but I’ve never heard it described as healthier than a carby snack. How is it healthier? |
