Don't kid yourself. People are judged by how they dress and look in public. No makeup, okay. Pajama bottoms and uncombed hair, I would want to be avoid you because, even if you don't, you look as though you don't bathe frequently and probably stink.

Maybe they do it so you will avoid them. So that they don't have to deal with you.

While this is true, I would say they notice. I’m mean - pajama pants?! How lazy can you be? Pull on black leggings, joggers or yoga pants. But rolling out of bed and going to your kids school? People don’t care what op does, but that doesn’t mean s/he’s not leaving an impression.

What is the f-ing difference? None, really. Do you have an IQ of 5?

Says the person dropping f bombs.

The difference is effort, self respect, respect for your kids as you are making an impression on the people in their lives. Again, I don’t care, but don’t pretend people don’t notice.

If this is your bar, not interested in your opinion of me. You have a narrow view of what constitutes self-respect. So shallow. I'm more interested in your character, the meaningful things you do with your lives, the way you treat those kids and those teachers. The fact that pj pants is a deal-breaker for you suggests you lack real compassion or character.

I'm quite sure the teachers prefer the nice lady in her pj pants who thanks them and is respectful than the dolled-up mom constantly demanding this or that for her snowflake.

Our society has wasted time on this stuff for too long.

Amen. The amount of money and time women waste to look a certain way for strangers is mind boggling. It only matters because people choose to keep thinking that it matters.

Honestly, you could put a gun to my head, and I couldn't remember what anyone was wearing at school drop off.

I wear sweatpants and pajama looking loungewear out all the time. I also wear fitted athleisure. Occasionally I am actually dressed. If it is true drop off or pick up, I don’t care. If I am actually watching a game or interacting with others, I put in slight effort.

You may not care how you look but other people have to look at you and they do care. There is no excuse for not coming your hair. Brushing your teeth, bathing regularly, and wearing appropriate clothes that fit.

I am very fit. I don’t know if it matters but we are also rich. Of course I’m clean and brush my teeth. When I do drop off, it is usually a drive by drop off. I don’t get out of my car.

I have good skin and hate face make up. I also get eyelash extensions so I normally look out together even when I don’t wear makeup.

Actual pajama pants with winter penguins printed on them? Or dark colored elastic waist pants that look like they could be workout pants?

Guess what - I don’t do any part of my life for the benefit of you.

Is this thread filled entirely with mothers in law? Because that’s what it sounds like. It’s not 1950.

Agreed! I am sure this lady is much nicer to look at than the overweight older lady in tight jeans and make up.

I am mid 30s (at least 15 years younger than most moms at my kids’ elementary school), fit, pretty, etc. I think I am better to look at than most dressed up older ladies… I do not wear pajamas pants thought (because I sleep in nightgowns).

Hat trick, I sleep in joggers or yoga pants!

Pants I can do. I hate putting on a bra more (and need it in public).

I'm 38 and think grown ups wearing pajamas in public is gross, lazy, and ugly. I also think its disrespectful in some ways. And shows your kids that its ok to put minimal effort in to your life. These aren't traits I would admire.

Get dressed before you leave your house or else you will be judged.

My sister is a teacher and I asked her this once— the people the teachers are judging (moms and dads) are the ones who are perfectly turned out, blown out, manicured and botoxed whose kids are wearing a shirt that hasn’t fit in a year and that has stains on it from dinner. Every family has different resources but when none of them are spent on the kids, then the teachers care.

Never once has she mentioned caring whether anyone has brushed their hair

I don't wear things that are obviously pajamas out of the house. I still dress very casually! Joggers or leggings for me. I shower after I drop them off (since I WFH) so I'm not all dressed up.
