Wow, really? I did not know this. My heart is a little bit broken. He always came off like such a gentleman. |
Reading this article, I wonder if it's a publicity stunt on behalf of The Witcher team. Because around the time he left the role as Geralt, other people reported that the writers on the show hated the novels, mocked them, and wanted to tell a different story on the TV show. And Cavill has been established as a huge fan of the novels for years. Other actors on set would report how Cavill would constantly try to bring the show's writing in line with the novels, like telling them, "Let's use this line from this page of the book". And we also know that season 2 of The Witcher was a trainwreck, mostly because the writers threw the novels in the trash and wrote original material for season 2. Then around the time that Cavill left the show, we heard that he was quarreling with the producers/writers about the creative direction the show was in. So this article seems to be saying that he was misogynistic to the female producer and female writers on the show. And I'm sitting here (as a woman, mind you), and thinking, "Hmmm...was he really? Or are you trying to spin this as a #metoo thing because your show sucks and you're angry that people noticed?" |
He doesn’t strike me as a guy who reads novels. It’s more plausible he’s a jerk who said jerky things and was fired…especially given things he said and was called out for and ultimately had to apologize for during Me, Too. |
He does read novels and what the previous poster said was true. |
+1. It's from some weird random source. Every once in a while someone posts something like this on entertainment and I'm always wondering if it's so they can write another article and use the comments here as fodder. There's also this one:
Which, taken out of context, sounds pretty bad. But if you read it in the context of the entire interview, and where she is specifically contrasting the relationship she has with the Stranger Things kids, it makes sense. I still find the wording cringey, but Cavill isn't some ogre.

He is a huge nerd and likes tabletop games and other nerdy nerdy nerdy stuff. Like D&D, magic cards, chess, sci-fi, fantasy, etc. All cool stuff but he definitely is a nerd. |
I'm a woman and I loved the direction the Superman franchise had been going. Caville was/is great and I knew about his nerdy backstory and LOVED him even more for it. Ido think that previously somewhat clueless men on #me-too things can evolve and he apologized. He was perfect for the role. Please do not bring Chalumet. He's fine for some roles but, please. He does not bring the Superman energy. |

He was a fan of the novels and was very unhappy with the writing. He also thinks he is a "bigger name" than he is.
There are rumors that talking he was "not nice" on Witcher set is damage control as nobody wants Liam as the Witcher. He is more like a whiny baby. Also, Cavill is known as a total douche bag. Cavil has also now doing damage control by announcing he is involved in Warhammer, another game thing that he loves even more than the Witcher. He is good looking, but clearly a pompous ar*e. |
are you in the industry? I haven't heard of Cavill being a douche, but then, my only source is the media. |
Utter douche and narcissistic. |
| Breaking news: astoundingly gorgeous man is narcissist. |
I read an article years ago about how he was a pudgy kid when he was younger. And that really impacted him. I could see him still being a nerd at heart, but also how now that he is hot (and he is very hot), he is a bit of a douche. It's probably a deep seated insecurity from his childhood that makes him this way. That's my arm chair psychoanalysis for the day. |
New poster. I don't have any particular engagement in this as I've only seen Cavill in the Enola Holmes movies (and liked his acting in them) and I've seen a few episodes of Witcher season one. No Superman. But I'm posting to thank this PP for giving the ENTIRE quote by Millie Bobby Brown for context. Far too often, a snippet out of a larger quote ends up circulated -- as Brown's tiny snippet about "shut up" was being misused by the earlier PP who did not remember the context but went right ahead and misquoted it anyway. And that's damaging both to the person speaking (Brown) and the person about whom she's talking (Cavill). The full quote makes vastly more sense and puts Cavill in a sensible light. People need to consider sources and hidden agendas in any show business or pop culture coverage, and not assume that anyone is anything (narcissist, "me too" violator, whatever) based on supposed news about actors' departures, script disputes, etc. |
I blog professionally. I know, everyone says they're a blogger, but I am. I look at the internet all day long and read huge amounts of both news and pop culture material. I couldn't resist looking at this link posted above. Really read it, PP. The writing is exactly like many other sites I've seen where the "post" is horribly written and in fact sounds like either a bot or like something that's been extensively run through translation software. There are "content farms" that pay people overseas an obscene pittance to churn out material like this. It's often run through a translation program before it's posted and you can detect the stilted, odd language choices. Does that make the content false? Not necessarily, but it does make it worth questioning. In terms of content: The post actually says clearly that there are no sexual allegations. The content of the post linked above simply repeats tweets based on a podcast (so...third hand: A post based on tweets based on a podcast, got that?). And the allegation is that "he would overrule" the female showrunner and he showed "disrespect" toward "women writers" and others on the production team. That's it. The sum of all the so-called allegations is so vague we have no idea what "overrule" and "disrespect" meant. All of that tracks perfectly with what an earlier PP noted: It's been reported in far more reputable sources for a while now that Cavill consistently took issue with the scripts diverging from the books, and would tell the producers and writers that. Smells like a hit job trying to smear him and spin the story as "He's a misogynist" rather than "He's a purist who argued about the scripts." As a woman, that spin offends me; women who are showrunners or writers should be able to take it on the chin if their work is at issue. I am not a Cavill fan one way or the other but I loathe crap like this being taken as "facts" about anyone. |
