Cavill accused of toxic behavior against women on Witcher set.

Makes sense why he was replaced on Witcher and Superman. There’s likely more bad press coming.

Remember: he said a lot of bad stuff during the Me, Too movement.

I blog professionally. I know, everyone says they're a blogger, but I am. I look at the internet all day long and read huge amounts of both news and pop culture material. I couldn't resist looking at this link posted above. Really read it, PP. The writing is exactly like many other sites I've seen where the "post" is horribly written and in fact sounds like either a bot or like something that's been extensively run through translation software. There are "content farms" that pay people overseas an obscene pittance to churn out material like this. It's often run through a translation program before it's posted and you can detect the stilted, odd language choices. Does that make the content false? Not necessarily, but it does make it worth questioning.

In terms of content: The post actually says clearly that there are no sexual allegations. The content of the post linked above simply repeats tweets based on a podcast (so...third hand: A post based on tweets based on a podcast, got that?). And the allegation is that "he would overrule" the female showrunner and he showed "disrespect" toward "women writers" and others on the production team. That's it. The sum of all the so-called allegations is so vague we have no idea what "overrule" and "disrespect" meant.

All of that tracks perfectly with what an earlier PP noted: It's been reported in far more reputable sources for a while now that Cavill consistently took issue with the scripts diverging from the books, and would tell the producers and writers that.

Smells like a hit job trying to smear him and spin the story as "He's a misogynist" rather than "He's a purist who argued about the scripts." As a woman, that spin offends me; women who are showrunners or writers should be able to take it on the chin if their work is at issue.

I am not a Cavill fan one way or the other but I loathe crap like this being taken as "facts" about anyone.

Well said.

Reading this article, I wonder if it's a publicity stunt on behalf of The Witcher team. Because around the time he left the role as Geralt, other people reported that the writers on the show hated the novels, mocked them, and wanted to tell a different story on the TV show. And Cavill has been established as a huge fan of the novels for years. Other actors on set would report how Cavill would constantly try to bring the show's writing in line with the novels, like telling them, "Let's use this line from this page of the book". And we also know that season 2 of The Witcher was a trainwreck, mostly because the writers threw the novels in the trash and wrote original material for season 2.

Then around the time that Cavill left the show, we heard that he was quarreling with the producers/writers about the creative direction the show was in.

So this article seems to be saying that he was misogynistic to the female producer and female writers on the show. And I'm sitting here (as a woman, mind you), and thinking, "Hmmm...was he really? Or are you trying to spin this as a #metoo thing because your show sucks and you're angry that people noticed?"

Due to Cavill's display of artistic integrity, by leaving The Witcher, I'm actually intrigued enough to consider reading the books. Not that often you see an A-list actor choosing his values over profit.

I'm not going to watch Enola Holmes because it looks so stupid, but he seems to have signed onto a new project, Warhammer, based on a video game. Whatever it is, I'm excited for it. Cavill's screen presence is magical.

Yes, will show Superman in younger years, predictions are Timothée Chalamet

Yuck! I don’t get the attraction some have to him.

He was really good in Dune (then again, that was a good film adaptation...for once), but I do NOT see him as Superman. Please God no.

He already quit playing Geralt of Rivia...now SUPERMAN too? WTF is going on.

(I supported him leaving The Witcher, since the writer/producers/everyoned butchered season 2 and Cavill was a genuine fan of the novels, but that was still a disappointment.)

I'm never going to forgive the evil Witcher Netflix team for ruining my favorite novels and the storylines of really great characters. When J.R.R. Tolkien said, “Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt,” he was talking about whoever wrote The Witcher TV series. (And the Rings of Power, and the House of the Dragon...I could go on).

I read an article years ago about how he was a pudgy kid when he was younger. And that really impacted him. I could see him still being a nerd at heart, but also how now that he is hot (and he is very hot), he is a bit of a douche. It's probably a deep seated insecurity from his childhood that makes him this way.

That's my arm chair psychoanalysis for the day.

He's told stories on various talk shows including Graham Norton about being teased as a youth for being pudgy. He used to be called "Fat Cavill' regularly at boarding school.

This is one of the youth photos that is all over the Internet:

He, himself, says that he was indeed fat. Also, fat in the rest of the world and fat in the US don't mean the same thing. Americans definition of fat is far larger than what the rest of the world thinks is fat. Americans have the worst obesity problem in the world.

In defense of Cavill and in response to the skeptical PP who said he was probably a jerk...after The Witcher team tried to go on a smear campaign to discredit Henry Cavill, people spoke up for him.

I'm friends with some of the staff at the Witcher show. A lot of them feel the same way as Cavill, but the writers are horribly toxic. At one point, one of them was outright yelling at Cavill. Cavill, respectfully, didn't respond in the same way but made well reasoned responses. The writer wanted to sexualize Cavill in ways that made him uncomfortable. It seemed to a lot of people that the writers were just using Cavill to fulfill their sick sexual fantasies. And Cavill wasn't for that. If you look at the HR report, it was Henry that reported on the writers, not the other way around.

From what I was told, the writers were the problem. They often looked down on Henry for playing video games and then one of my friends swears he heard Jenny Klein say gamers are stupid man-children after she saw Henry playing on his laptop.

And this:
I've been on set with Henry, can confirm that he is nothing but the gracious, patient, kind and passionate guy you see in interviews. One of the guys I was working with, despite us generally being asked not to speak to actors, went up to him to express his fandom as a general fan of the Witcher books and games and Henry's portrayal as Geralt, just before he was about to head onto the set for filming, all make up done and ready to go. And he was nothing but gracious to us random dudes on set, said thank you and that he really appreciates it and carried on doing his work. He's a professional and also seemingly unflappable, not easy for the rest of the industry to take when he decides he doesn't like their angle and steps away.

Cracking actor, genuine bloke

Henry Cavill is in talks to do a Call of Duty movie. My lustful heart is pleased. But since Amazon is adapting the video game, it will sadly probably suck like the Rings of Power.

He is a terrible actor. Like Aaron Johnson, they should just keep their mouths shut and look pretty.

I like him. Sure, he tends to play the romantic hero and the action figure, but he does it well.

Enola was good light movie watching.

The third season of "The Witcher" will be released in two parts, with the first five episodes will be premiering on June 29 and the final three episodes airing on July 27.

Who's excited for Cavill's last turn as the Witcher? He's the only thing that made the show work.

I'm not impressed that they're literally splitting up the last three episodes BY A MONTH in a cynical ploy to keep viewers. They are such frauds, the Witcher team. I'm excited because it's Henry Cavill's last season, but f--- this show and their cheap tactics for ratings.
