Wow.

I don't think most guys are wired to sit in a cubicle and stare at a computer, which is a soulless existence. They aren't interested in office politics and walking on eggshells is just pathetic. Guys would rather be out doing things and making things that are tangible. This also explains why guys are falling behind in education...not exactly a surprise.

I hate to say it but just let him know you are their to support him. There is not much else to do.

I hate to share this story because it's still so painful for everyone involved. A good friend had a dirt bag of a wife that she continued to cheat on him. He finally decided he was done but it took a long time for him to get there. This friend took risks (always been that way).

Well as he was about to serve her papers he was murdered by his neighbor. They had a long standing feud and obviously being murdered it was not his fault. But I truly believe the pain of his marriage failing lead him to do and say things that he normally would not.

My point being is he has to address his personal issues before he can focus on his professional life.

Nope. This excuse is only being made because white men are now becoming affected.

Asian men seem to be doing well and have no problem sitting in a cubicle and becoming successful.
Also, asian boys are not falling behind in education.

Then why are the DMV's pricy inner suburbs full of lawyers, lobbyists, and specialist doctors, and not people in the building trades? I think people push their kids into the corporate world because they look around them and that's what they see.

Many don’t want to live among people who would look down on them and treat their kids badly. They see how even pink collar-workers like teachers, nurses, and social workers who live here are treated. When you go outside the pricey inner suburbs, you see amazing real estate owned by successful blue collar workers.

Ditto. Come move out to the country. We own beautiful equestrian estates and mountainside retreats, stay to ourselves and all have multiple businesses to support our lifestyles. Hanging out on a hike, by a fire pit, or at a neighbor's pool is how we unwind.

People will always need to poop. So plumber is probably the only true future proof profession.

He got married at 26 and has a tumultuous marriage where they have almost divorced a bunch of times. Professionally he is floundering and was fired from his last job. Now he says he never will work corporate again and wants to be a welder or work with his hands. We do not know what to do to help him.

Send him to welding school. My CPA's husband is a commercial welder. He makes far more money as a commercial welder than she does.

Many community colleges have welding curriculums.

I have two friends who got degrees from good schools then decided to train in trades. Both make a good living now. One manages/co-owns mechanic shops/ garages (he trained to be a mechanic) and one works for a huge company as the head of facilities.

Yes! There’s an HVAC program at Edison HS in Alexandria. I met the guy who was running it a few years ago. He graduated from the program in the 80s, retired before 40 and now teaches. Loves his life.

Why is he lost? It sounds like he knows what he wants. I agree that he should get into the trades. My DH makes six figures as a mechanic. He loves his work too. A lot of people get pushed to go to college because they do well in school, but trades are more technical now than they used to be. There are a lot of smart people in the fields. It's not like the stereotypes you see on TV. My husband was a straight A student in school and college, but knew he couldn't sit all day long, so he got a tech degree.

Completely agree. I think it's in their DNA to go out and kill something to bring back to the cave. Even in modern times.

Personally, I'd say 22.

Nah. 34 meets criteria for “adult child.” There’s no age limit to worrying about our kids’ well-being, and this is the appropriate forum to do it. Take your smug self and F all the way off.
