Yes, because Labor Day gets such extensive coverage in the K-5 curricula nationwide. |
It's not being removed. |
I'm all for teaching kids more about the history of labor in the U.S. |
The partisan hyper-ventilating on the part of the local Democrats is not a good look and tells me they are worried about next year’s local and state elections. Kids obviously will still learn about MLK. |
I'm all for teaching a lot of things that aren't taught. But there are only so many hours in the day. And canceling school every day that there's a quarter inch of flurries doesn't help. |
I think this is an automatic response just because. It seems like this draft of standards has very little that is actually that really raised concern and were reasonable. |
I guess historical accuracy isn't important to you, then? Zachary Taylor wasn't the most recent president from Virginia. And the capitol of Virginia was moved to Richmond, not Williamsburg. Should cause concern for what other inaccuracies may follow in the instructional framework yet to be released. It's not worry about the next elections. It's worry about the education of our future leaders. |
They went from a 48 page document under the previous standards to a 53 page document, where previously that had a 500 page document that combined learning and curriculum.
This is the source of 'XXX was removed.' |
When you’re elected with a fake fear campaign about CRT, can you really blame people for being skeptical he’s doing POC justice? |
NP, here. No actually I don't. Because despite an American K-12 education that included APUSH and majoring in history at a very well known college, I never learned out Juneteenth in school. I'd like my kids to learn about it at least. |
What happened with the vote today? |
Why so late? I learned about the holocaust in 4th grade. |
Yes, Any mention of MLK is being removed in every grade but kindergarten. |
It is a federal holiday now, sweetie. |
I have a 4th grader who came home last week and told us "the real story of Pocahontas is completely different from Disney. Did you X, Y, Z?" and I did not, in fact, know X, Y, and Z - so perhaps something has changed since you had a 4th grader. How old are your kids? 25? |
