They can go during the passing period, or during break and/or lunch. They really don't need to go during class. It's not necessary - and after the vandalism, schools aren't very accommodating anymore. That's what is called a natural consequence. In theory, students can go to bathroom during the passing period, or during break, but in fact, there is not enough time for students to use bathroom and walk from a classroom to next classroom if the distance is long, and there are always many many students in the hall, so it is impossible for a student to walk fast. My daughter could not get the response from the E Hall Pass during whole class, so she had to use the bathroom after class, then she was late for her next class, and got a tardy. At present, she have got several tardy due to the same reason. She tell me she is so sad when she get a tardy every time, and always worry she will be asked to stay a whole day in her middle school on some Saturday for punishment some students who get many tardy. But my daughter says there are some nice teachers who directly let students go to bathroom without using E Hall Pass. She likes these friendly and nice class teachers very much! |
Nearly all students hate e hall pass, parents all disliking it because it is harmful for students' physical and mental health very much! |
Staff hates it too. I either spend my whole class tethered to my laptop approving passes, get my lesson interrupted 43 times with “dings” letting me know passes are coming, or end up with upset kids who are waiting for passes I never knew of to be approved.
Bonus that apparently we spent many thousands for this program. |
Is it possible to
Limit the pass asking to the first 10 minutes of class? If I don’t sign the digital consent will my child be opted out? |
Not sure about the ePass, but several online software/apps are not included in the consent form - because FCPS has already approved them for you. |
I thought that the apps not included in the digital consent fodm must abide by FERPA. It does not appear that a tracking app that identifies minor students bathroom habits is covered by FERPA. Does anyone with a better understanding want to chime in? |
I mean, I can limit the passes to any point. I’ve said I won’t approve passes while I’m lecturing, that if it’s an extreme emergency just say “it’s an emergency” and we will figure it out when you return. |
How many times do you need to post the same sentiments on this thread? I am guessing you are the same person who posted with outrage a few weeks ago that your AAP kid wasn’t allowed to use the bathroom whenever she wanted. Kids wasting times in bathrooms and vaping or meeting up there is a huge problem in high schools. I am glad ehall pass cuts down on this by limithe number of passes available. |
I like ehall pass for advisory period. It's easier than my kid having to find the teacher. She can just set up a pass and the teacher either accept or deny. It's especially good when she realizes on a weekend she needs to see a teacher on say, Monday during 4th period. Instead of trying to find him before school or run to him before her actual 4th period, to ask, she can just send the epass.
It seems silly for the bathroom. |
Not sure if this helps -- The fifth question listed under FAQs on the LBSS webpage on e-Hall Pass states that the e-Hall Pass uses PII, as defined by FERPA, via the Google Login. Because the data stored by e-Hall Pass contains PII, Eduspires Solutions signed a Data Protection Agreement (DPA) to cover FCPS’s FERPA responsibility. That's why parent permission is not required. https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/about/policies-and-procedures/e-hall-pass |
Wow. Our school doesn't have this but it confirms my decision to leave teaching at the end of the year. We already have to spend so much time calling parents over unexcused absences and tardies and issuing tardy passes and monitoring hallways while we're trying to set up for the next class and managing bathroom queues during class. I imagine standards-based grading and getting interrupted 20 times while trying to teach will be the icing on the cake next year. |
I agree....there is no time to focus on teaching. This impacts the teachers and kids. FCPS needs to get a grip on this. |
Thanks! So Lake Braddock uses it, does Irving? Is there a place we can find out which schools use this? |
Robinson does too. At least in the middle school, not sure about 9-12. |
Twain MS, Edison HS and Hayfield Secondary all use it |
