Gorgeous in AU Park

I just can't believe someone would pay that much for a house that's only 1,848 sq. ft. above ground.

Making decisions based on $200 worth of paint is always the mark of a savvy buyer

The mania for AU Park continues and some have said that it’s mostly about UMC groupthink. I largely agree AND have stated here that UMC groupthink, especially in DC, is a sign of very poor self-awareness in Democratic-aligned circles. And that poor self-awareness will express itself in poor electoral outcomes: watch!

You're back! Your commitment to this bit is admirable.

Democrats are probably going to take a beating in the midterms, but it has nothing to do with the self-awareness of the people who buy homes in AU park. Which is a nice neighborhood, zoned for good schools, that is convenient to metro.

And you can't entertain. It just isn't special at that price.

Why can't you entertain?

That’s the going rate for a 5+ br in AU park. Whether you personally would pay that much to live there is a different question, but the market very much supports these prices.

It’s terrible bc the neighborhood stinks. Save and see if you can do better in Kent or Cleveland Park. Otherwise, prepare for your kids to be slaked by the depravity of AU Park.

OK, your opinion does not seem to be widely shared. Many people would really like to live in AU Park. Plus, it's closer than Cleveland Park to all of the amenities of Bethesda (athletic facilities, trails, shopping).

Bc people don’t want to save and aim higher. AU is the height of mediocrity.

Lmao

No, you should be crying. I was nearing a lifetime stretch of AU Park mediocrity and, while sitting amongst a crew of completely insufferable people at Turtle Park got the motivation to go for far better. 15 years later, I live the dream. Great home, kids in best private, a beach house and a mountain house AND no AU Park mids in my midst! If you are smart enough to consider AU Park, you are also probably able to make it big. Drop the lawyer route, the gov spot and think like an entrepreneur. Fight the fight for something worthwhile rather than being some realtors latest victim and a life of blah!

You sound great, I wish I could be like you, but alas, the location of my house is holding me back (?).

It's pretty expensive for a generic center hall colonial in a middling neighborhood.

It's interesting. I've been at multiple parties at this house. It isn't great for entertaining groups bigger than about 10. Everyone crams into one room. Other homes of a similar size have better flow for entertaining.
Very happy for the price the owners got!

Good for you for having an enterprising mindset. For the basic, follow the heard types (most of DC) AU park is their heaven
