The heavy jewelry and otherwise simple clothes (though obviously very high quality and perfectly tailored). It will be interesting to see if this works. It obviously worked for QEII, whose clothes were never fashionable but became iconic. But she was a ruling Queen and also I think there was something about her being Queen through the very tumultuous 20th century, when clothes and culture changed so much, that made her adherence to traditional fashion (if you define traditional as "what aristocratic women wore in England during World War II) feel at time anachronistic but ultimately a lasting testament to her symbol as a source of consistency.
Meghan, I don't think cares about any of that. I think her cape looked cool and her hat really sets off her face to it's best effect. I would be curious to know if she intentionally kept her jewelry incredibly toned down (especially next to Catherine's huge pearl statement) or if that was orchestrated by the royal decision makers who seem to want to make it as clear as possible that Meghan has no importance within the royal family. Maybe a joint decision -- I don't get the sense that Meghan is eager to try and seize power, she seems extremely over the royal family and to simply be performing the wifely duty of supporting her husband.
Meghan moved an entire ocean away to get far from these people. She is not trying to seize power. She's trying to just get through it and get the heck outta there.
