I mean, I guess. My kid waltzed right into UW-Madison and was waitlisted at UVA in state (ended up getting in in June).

The rankings are broader than what supposedly happened to your “kid.”

Wasn’t that school a “thing” in 1989?

The schools ranked higher on the endowment list have some upside given their resources.

Emory does not have the 9th highest endowment. It has the 15th. Here is a link to the real rankings:

https://www.nacubo.org/Research/2021/Public-NTSE-Tables

So they haven't been underachieving quite as much though the 2nd list shared includes a few system endowments too.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother looking too closely at the few sets of undergrad departmental rankings.

I would. They are much a more useful tool than a general ranking.

The undergrad departmental rankings are not nearly as useful as the general rankings. The graduate rankings they do are more useful as a proxy if you are concerned about a particular discipline.

Wow. Hopkins is WAY overrated. I would put it below Duke & Northwestern (not to mention Dartmouth et al).

Now I have to pay for dance lessons? When does it end?

How long will Columbia be ranked around the #18 range? Is that ranking here to stay, or is it just a one year fluke as "punishment" for the data falsification scandal?

Hopkins has a premier med school and hospital system (that only Harvard and Stanford really rival). Honestly, nothing stands out about Duke and Northwestern other than maybe that cereal company's biz school at NW.

I'd expect them to be back in the 7-18 range over the next 5 years but gone are the top 5 days. Honestly, did anyone really believe they were a top 5 undergrad school though?

Agree on Hopkins, Duke, and Columbia. Hopkins great for med and SAIS but what else. Top 20 yes not top 10. Duke is basketball reflected glory. Again maybe top 15. Columbia fair ranking to me is 8-10. Chicago overrated too.
