Am I the oldest menstruating female on the planet?

That’s how I feel at 46. Keep flowing!

My mom was 57. I have heavy periods so I'm really not looking forward to this being my future...lol

Did you have kids later? I think that is more relevant to when you started. My last was at 43 so I'm not surprised at all to still have it at 50. Or you might be a super ager - aging really slowly so 56 numerically is really only 38 biologically.

Several posters have mentioned the age that they got their first period, but my understanding is that age of menarche hasn’t been shown to have a big influence on age of menopause. So having a late period doesn’t mean late menopause. There just doesn’t seem to be any relationship. There does seem to be a relationship with having kids later, that does seem to make menopause later. But I don’t think these things areWell studied or that they are very strong relationships.

Interesting. I never heard this but it would ring true for me. I had my sons at 38 and 39 still getting my periods at 56.

This is actually really good news for your health -- there have been a bunch of studies now showing that the later you hit menopause, the more likely you are to make it to 100. So, maybe a silver lining to make up for all the annoyance!

Ugh I’m 53 and still on oral BC because I have fibroids causing insane amounts of bleeding, as in I am now anemic it is so bad. I keep saying to myself WHY am I dealing with cramps and heaving periods at age 53?! And while on birth control!

The last time I tried to go off BC my period lasted 10 days before I started taking the pills again. I could not handle it.

No sign of cycles slowing down.
Aunt Flo just keeps returning.
It doesn’t seem fair!
I started on the late side.. age 15… but not unusually so.
My mother had menopause early, in her late 30s actually, so I thought that might be my pattern too.
At 45 I thought about buying a Diva cup but figured why waste the money?
I didn’t know a ten year investment would have been worth it.

Just PMS venting…

I was about 57 when I stopped.

I was 58. Seemed like it would never end. But post menopause isn't all roses either - weight gain in the middle, hot flashes, etc.

Anonymous wrote:You might be! I am 51 and had no period for five months and then full force two weeks ago. I had hot flashes, and I started taking Black Cohosh and felt like a human again after some three weeks of it. I think it caused my period to come back.
But I gained weight since taking it, but who knows if it is the Black Cohosh contributing to the weight gain.

Well it's an abortifacient so that's entirely possible.

54 and feeling the same. Most of the last year I was getting my period often, every 14-20 days, sometimes as little as 11. Now I'm alternating that with sometimes going 30+ days with no period, just long enough to get hopeful and then it comes again. Often preceded by a day or two of overwhelming depression. This week I was surprised by a sudden huge blob, but then just a few days of light spotting, totally new pattern. I basically have to be prepared at all times for anything. If I knew it was going to last this long I would have gotten ablated a long time ago...

61 was the last time I was visited by my 'friend'. Good riddance!

Oh -- I did have kids a little on the later side, but not really that late -- 35 and 38.
