USNEWS 2023 rankings

It has no place to drop further.
Very solid school at a relatively good location. Plenty of money.
It could only go up from there.

Nonsense. Many of the great publics schools in this country don’t have huge endowments. People seem to forget that large state appropriations are equivalent to billions of dollars in private school endowment.

Currently, Michigan has a 17 billion dollar endowment. If you add state appropriations to that figure, it’s more on the order of 24 billion as compared to a private school. There are only 5 top 25 universities in this country with a larger overall endowment/state appropriation than UMich. Michigan is only ranked 23rd at USNWR, so endowment is not the single most important factor. UVA is also in a similar situation. Another factor I will mention, before someone else does, is endowment/student. I find to be a somewhat a less important metric as it doesn’t include economies of scale, percentage of graduate students//undergraduate ones, locational costs, and other factors.

That’s nonsense. There are other schools rising that could overtake USC.

Which ones??

Tufts? NYU? rest of the #28-30 schools?
Nope.

It's 16th on endowment among private schools.
#23-24 seems to be right place for USC

Boston University, Northeastern, and Tulane should be T40

LOL Place the US News rankings next to a list of schools ranked by endowment. (Univ. of Texas system and Texas A&M endowments cover many universities within each system).

Columbia was removed from the 2022 ranking (tied at #2) due to recent disclosures of improper data submission to US News. Columbia University is one of a handful of elite schools that does not submit a CDS.

For the top 5, go with the 5 largest endowments (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT).

Then Penn, Chicago, Northwestern, Caltech, & Duke in some order.

Johns Hopkins and Columbia tied at #11.

Next grouping: Dartmouth, Brown, Vanderbilt, Cornell, & WashUStL.

Next 5: Rice, Notre Dame, UCLA, & Cal-Berkeley.

USC may move up from its current #27 position.

You forgot Michigan, and the Cal schools won't get the same bump given the admissions issues from the last cycle.

Also, stop trying to make Notre Dame happen.

Notre Dame has been a T20 for a very very long long time.
It's 7th on endowment. I don't see schools that will push it out of T20.

[/quot

Notre Dame will fall because it’s only 3.21 percent black. Again, no one care about its endowment

Sounds like you are new to the college ranking stuff.
Endowment is a very important factor.
Look at the correlation between endowment and the ranking.

Notre Dame admitted enough Blacks, but it can't force them to enroll.
It'll not fall because of black.

This. ND has been making a very concerted effort to increase diversity. This will only help them rise in the rankings. Despite lack of diversity, still top 20. That's saying something.

Brown will probably go to 8 or 9 because of the major changes made in financial aid and the pell grant part of the USNWR equation. This factor had been depressing the ranking and now it is removed. Brown’s outcome and placement data has been very strong last 5 years and this factor has not caught up with USNWR ranking but is reflected in WSJ ranking.

Yea NYU. Deserves top 25 over USC.

LOL NYU is clearly a step down from USC which is a real school.

Will a drop make application numbers go down?

Are you from the west coast? Serious question. I am from NY and NYU seems head and shoulders above USC to me - it’s not necessarily that I think so much more of NYU, it’s that I think of USC as a fluff college which gamed the rankings (these feelings existed way before the varsity blues scandal). I wonder if you feel the same in converse becauase of where you grew up?

USC is supremely overrated. The fact it was tied with Emory and Georgetown years back is blasphemous. It's US news reputation score is 3.9 lower than NYU.
