There are only 5 top 25 universities in this country with a larger overall endowment/state appropriation than UMich. Michigan is only ranked 23rd at USNWR, so endowment is not the single most important factor. UVA is also in a similar situation. Another factor I will mention, before someone else does, is endowment/student. I find to be a somewhat a less important metric as it doesn’t include economies of scale, percentage of graduate students//undergraduate ones, locational costs, and other factors. [/quote]
