So maybe you can stop looking down on people you think you are superior to.

This is so patronizing I can’t even. Did you really think fat Trump supporters are incapable of basic human decency??

NP

Well most of DCUM does.

Why the OP would choose Gatlinburg as a vacation destination is funny. It’s like Niagara Falls or Branson Missouri. I personally enjoy the kitsch but it’s definitely not for stuck up judgmental people. She may just need to stay in Bethesda.

What the hell? Those people are not patriotic. They support Trump over country. They have thrown out our American values of decency, honesty and caring for our fellow Americans because Trump said so. They care more about their candidate remaining in office than they care about our American system of government, something that has been the jewel in the crown of Democracy and the envy of the world for years is now tarnished. They call for violence instead of elections to get their way.

They are the exact opposite of patriots.

Were these fat white families? Would you have more understanding if they were black families and overweight?

Perhaps get out of your bubble more often and see the country. Not just the elite parts of the country. It may not be pretty but hiding in your tower isn't helping anything.

Agreed. I usually vote progressive, but it’s nasty of OP to be so judgmental. Honestly, it’s one of the reasons my family left DC. I’d rather be around a political mix of people - even people who are politically apathetic or don’t like to pick a party label. It’s better than being in a community where if you aren’t hewing to the party line you’re an outsider. We spent time in WV and NC this summer, as well as liberal Maine and MD. It was nice to be out of the bubbles.

Yeah, but come on. Anyone who wears a “Let’s Go Brandon” t-shirt in public is a freaking jerk. I think we can all agree on that.

Not OP. Please eff off.

It's a great family vacation. Smokey Mountain National Park is right there. It's gorgeous. We saw a ton of bears. There's decent rafting and tubing and great hiking. Dollywood is a fun family theme park.

My son is tall and lean and he wears a medium. Finding a medium was akin to searching for a unicorn. However, XL-3XL were a plenty.

Doesn't that mean no one is buying XL-3XL, and they are buying Medium? That proves most people are not large, but regular.

Incapable? No. Unwilling, yes.

And the Venn diagram of these people and those sporting some sort of patriotic/Let’s Go Brandon/Trump gear is a circle.

Can’t wait to get back home to DC.

I’m sure the locals can’t wait for you to go back, either.

Is this literally the first thread you’ve ever read on DCUM?

Where do you glean that OP is a liberal? Nothing about that post suggests “I am a liberal” to keep…

DC is less fat than New York.

This. Also, watch the documentary Hillbilly on Amazon right now. You have no idea how privileged you are. Kindness in your life, please

So, people support Trump because they’re not … privileged? This is reductive and insulting to “underprivileged” people who 1) are aware that voting for Republicans is ALWAYS against their own interests and 2) refuse to support anti-democratic racist Christo-fascists and people who mock the disabled.

I'm originally from CA. When we moved to the DC area, we went to some fairs, like the Ag fair, Renaissance fair. I was shocked at how many obese people there were.

DC itself doesn't have many obese people. In general, cities don't have a lot of obese people. It's the suburbs and rural areas that have a lot of obese people.

But the south does have an outside share of cities with the most obesity, with TN leading the pack:

This. OP's post is dripping with judgment but I have to admit that when ever I visit my brother in North Carolina, it is striking how much fatter the typical person is as compared to those I encounter in the DC area. Doesn't make them bad people, but its hard not to notice. Unfortunately we've been conditioned to blame people who are overweight. Similarly, I just got back from a family vacation in Italy and it is striking how much thinner the typical person was there. Of course you read about these things and are generally aware, but it is different to see and experience it.
