Not impressed with Wegman”s on Wisconsin Ave.

I’m disappointed too and I live near the new Wegmans. I’ve been twice and it’s super underwhelming. The sushi was so bad DH and I literally spit it out. I’m back to Whole Foods and supplementing some at Giant. I do like the shaved steak at Wegmans but that’s the only thing I can think of that I would specifically go there for.

I was surprised at how expensive it is.

I disagree. I live near the Tysons Wegmans and I far prefer my local Giant.

Yeah but that’s more of an urban location. The one in Ffx is totally different.

It’s awful. A mix between ghetto, Gaithersburg, and West Virginia. Loud, chaotic, selling primarily unhealthy, processed foods. And expensive. I’d much rather go to Giant, and I’m no fan of Giant.

Okay,
Giant employee of the year.

For meat, try Wagshal's.

Wagshal's is nice but 3x the price of Whole Foods for meat. It's insane.

The thing is, DC is filled with people from elsewhere, so when something that reminds them of home opens here, they get really really excited. And then they tell everyone how amazing it is and how lucky we are to be getting one, because it reminds them of home. And then everyone who is not reminded of home visits this new, super-hyped establishment, and thinks "why was the opening of this in the news?" because in reality it's just a grocery store.

I learned this when Wawa opened on 19th street. Turns out, Wawa is a freaking gas station. Why did I have to read about the impending opening of a gas station with no gas pumps on PoPville for 6 months?

Anonymous wrote:I wasn’t impressed either , OP. For all the reasons already listed here plus their bags are stupid. They are thin paper bags without handles. It’s really difficult to carry them.

Yes, what's up with the bags? I guess they want to encourage you to bring your own.

Alao love the one in PG and was underwhelmed - so few groceries and natural foods!! And the meat selection was sparse. They seemed to be either out of things or in the middle of restocking on a Monday afternoon - do they not do that overnight/early morning? Not that many customers

I LOVE my Wegmans in Burlington, MA. But perhaps it’s an exception?

New Yorker here who misses his Shop Rite. Loved by Italian Americans everywhere

Wegman’s in Germantown is terrific and far better than my local Giant and Safeway. I haven’t been to the one on Wisconsin, which is far closer. Disappointing to hear it’s not as good.

What was really depressing to me is that the Wegman's crowd was all white people shopping for themselves and black people shopping for Instacart.
I've never noticed this quite to this degree before.

When we used Instacart regularly (several years ago when I could afford it) the shoppers were also the drivers; not sure how they do it now but 80% of our deliveries were made by middle aged or older white women. It was pretty surprising.
