Not impressed with Wegman”s on Wisconsin Ave.

It has a garage with plenty of spaces but imo it is sort of a mess of a garage

It's horrible. The best produce is at 1) farmers markets 2) mom's 3) whole foods. Wegmans has good cheese and great fish, at least in the suburbs. I can always find fresh sockeye salmon there.

I heard most farmers markets use the same suppliers as supermarkets.
Do you think it is true?

If you see produce that’s not locally in season where do you think that comes from?

From out of state but from small family cooperative farms.
If they have same products like supermarkets from big corporate farms and distributing it at farmers market it is deceptive business practice.

You want to look for a "producers-only" farmers market. These have a requirement that the vendor grows or produces what they sell.

I like the Wegman's pizza. $14 for a large pizza is hard to beat. The Wisconsin ave store devotes too much space to booze & prepared foods and not enough space to regular groceries.

I wasn’t impressed either , OP. For all the reasons already listed here plus their bags are stupid. They are thin paper bags without handles. It’s really difficult to carry them.

We go to the Bethesda market on Sundays (Central Farm Markets). It seems to be products grown on those farms (many in PA and MD). There are some greenhouse grown products (eg salad mix in winter) but otherwise follows the seasons. That means it can be pretty sparse in the winter.

Some vendors, like ProFish, are obviously not catching lobsters locally.

I totally agree - very disappointed when I visited the other week. This Wisconsin Wegmans is not up to par and a pain in the ass to get to.

This.

I don't like the smaller, urban stores (like Tysons & Eisenhower Ave in Alexandria) at all. Too small. Not enough selection of 'regular' grocery products. (Haven't been to the NW DC store yet, but I assume it's similar).

The bigger suburban stores, however, are truly fantastic. Lots of choice, lots of international products. I live in Cap Hill & would rather schlep to the huge PG Wegmans than shop at my local grocery stores.

This is my Wegmans and since both are equidistant from me I think I will keep going as I didn't like the DC Wegmans

It depends on the farmers markets. The ones run through Fairfax county are producer only and have to come from a certain radius. The one in Falls Church and the one in Westover are similar. I don’t know about the ones in DC though.

This. I hate the Wegmans paper bags. Why did they cheap out on the handles.
Their prepared food is not that good.
I generally go to WF and farmers markets but need to start going to Mom’s. Isn’t there one in Cleveland Park?

There's Yes! and Sprouts in Cleveland Park. Mom's is supposed to be opening in Van Ness...eventually? Unclear when.

As someone who grew up with Wegman's, I am very happy to see other people asking about they hype.

Wegman's is fine, but I will never understand the gushing.

It's very weird. I don't understand it either. It's a nice grocery store, that's all.

Yes, DC has producer only farmers markets. Some are "fresh farm" markets. https://www.freshfarm.org/

Very different than grocery store. Once you get accustomed to fresh farm food it can be hard to go back to grocery store for many items, but it's worth it.

I don’t get the gushing either. Never have. And I have been to multiple ones here and while traveling. Always thought it might click as to why, but no…
