Not impressed with Wegman”s on Wisconsin Ave.

I don’t know why this grocery store is so hyped up. It didn’t live up to my expectations at all. I went there for the first time the other day, and this Wegman’s store was smaller than I thought it would be. I bought a bag of avocados that never ripened correctly. The prepared foods section was mediocre and full of bland stuff, including cheap farmed Atlantic salmon that is unhealthy. The Hispanic food prepared section was a joke with just fried plantains. The cheese boards I could do myself at home by going to a better grocery store with a better selection of cheeses and charcuterie.

And last but not least, I didn’t like the crowd or type of people shopping there. This included a bunch of young teens running around the store recording people with their phones as they tried to “bump” into people, sometimes in seemingly inappropriate ways. It felt like a very unwelcoming free for all.

I expected much more on a different level altogether. I won’t be going back.

Wet man’s isn’t the holy grail. It it’s a hell of a lot better than giant and Safeway. 5’thr thing about the teenagers is attributable to their parents, not the store

Giant is a bit rundown, but has decent prices and a nice selection of food items.

Wegman's is new, but I agree that it is overrated.

At least there is an additional option.

Like most other huge stores like this, I imagine they are better in the suburbs where they have twice the real estate and lower prices. I think some of the advantages get lost when trying to translate it to a city location.

I disagree. I live near the Tysons Wegmans and I far prefer my local Giant.

It's horrible. The best produce is at 1) farmers markets 2) mom's 3) whole foods. Wegmans has good cheese and great fish, at least in the suburbs. I can always find fresh sockeye salmon there.
