Plan B if Elrich wins tomorrow...

He's wildly incompetent, makes incoherent speeches, seems out of his depth on crime, isn't respected by the police, and isn't well-liked by anyone on County Council. I will be voting for Blair tomorrow, and encourage others to as well. The County desperately needs a change. Blair seems to be high-energy, competent, and has management experience, which is a large part of this job! For those who are voting Elrich to stop development, I would remind you that real estate prices continue to price young families and middle class folks out of our County, and this will mean long-term decline for our schools and businesses.

I like Elrich because of his Covid record. I don't actually know much else about him. It's just that with Covid still very much a factor, another Elrich term would reassure me in terms of health policies. Now if you can point me to what Blair would do, I'm all ears...

What COVID record? The fact that the county still does not have a health officer and the Howard County executive has to sign orders? Trying to interfere with MCPS's correct actions to keep schools open? Pushing a stupid vaccine passport and then retreating after business opposition? Having mask mandates and covid restrictions in a county where people largely are in favor of such things is not an accomplishment. Also the constant talking about covid week after week, reminding people to be cautious, the next variant could be coming, etc. as if it is the only issue facing the county is really indicative of some type of obsession and unfortunate. Literally no Democratic politician continue to cling to covid as if it is 2020 like he does.

Don't forget he based a lot of COVID spending on the promise of federal reimbursement, and he couldn't deliver on all of it. The feds denied funding on several initiatives. AFTER it was spent.

All good things, apart from the absence of health officer, obviously.
I don't hold it against him that he's been stymied by people who wish to take more risks. At least he tried.

Honestly, it's rather funny how a few posters on DCUM are so against Elrich. I think most of the MoCo population is fine with him.
And a revolutionary he is not! If you're going to claim that, nothing else you say will be credible.

I'm not against a change of regime, you know. I'm sure the other Democratic candidates are OK people. I just have to point out on all these threads how nonsensical your Elrich hate is. Makes you look like disgruntled oppo.

Yeah, MoCo clearly has just blown caution to the wind with COVID! What do you want? Shuttered schools and businesses?

I considered this as well. MoCo is on a downward spiral of haves vs. the have nots. Our schools are a mess. We desperately need to broaden our tax base with more investment from businesses in the county. Elrich isn't going to help this.

And knowingly breaking COVID rules that didn't fit his lifestyle (see: live music at beer gardens), and when caught, just updating his orders.

Meanwhile, his team fought tooth and nail to keep kids from playing youth sports.

But thank goodness the old white boomers got to enjoy their breweries

Agreed. I’m also strongly in support of Blair.

Elrich and Riemer lost my respect during the SRO “debate.” We watched two elected officials completely disregard viewpoints that didn’t fit their narrow views. There was no attempt to gauge the community’s feelings. The opinions of people who work in schools were completely ignored. I was appalled how remarkably biased and disingenuous that process was.

Maryland has a sore loser law that prevents this.

Yes! I remember Nancy Navarro giving Will Jawando a lecture when he (and Riemer) introduced their bill to prohibit police on school campuses. She was dressing them down for taking the decision away from the schools and the Board of Education, who were, at the time, all women but one. MCPS subsequently went on to do a really thorough examination of the program, the benefits and drawbacks. But Elrich pulled them before MCPS released its findings. Because of course he knows better than everyone else.

There is a growing pro-SRO movement in the county right now, and press and councilmembers have been invited to all their forums. None have shown up (I have been to all of them). What good is "leadership" if you don't at least listen to community voices? Even when you don't agree. Especially when you don't agree.

Looks like Elrich lost.

That’s too bad. Although I detest him and everything he represents, I switched parties specifically so I could vote FOR him, because he is *exactly* what the voters of this county deserve.

Not what they want - but what they deserve.

The election isn’t over. Mail in ballots haven’t been counted and there is ~250 vote difference right now. No clear winner and likely going to recount.

It hasn’t happened yet. In spite of your effort to hurt people with your vote, Blair thankfully has a strong chance of winning. We are going to need him to balance out the very anti-public safety council we just elected.

Even a super-moderate Republicn doesn't stand a chance.

The best long-term solution is open primaries. Youd' then end up with 2 D's in the general and at least one would be relatively normal.

Seriously. However, it is critical that Blair win for the health of the police department, and by extension the safety of the county. It has SUCKED having a boss who hates you for four years.

Typical republicans trying to claim mail in ballots are invalid. Aren’t most of them from Democrats?
