We are “Greece” for the food fair! What’s your favorite Greek food? It’s not MLA format or the Chicago Book of Style but 3 pages of pps seemed to get it just fine. |
Costco carries this intermittently - 2 bricks for $9. Really good! |
|
OP, for the salad, google choriatiki.
If Rockville is convenient to you, Asadur's Market has an entire wall of straight-from-Greece frozen Greek goodies, including everything you could imagine making with phyllo, sweet and savory. |
| My favorite Greek appetizer is taramasalata -- fish (I think carp) roe dip! A Mediterranean market might have it. |
PP who suggested them. OMG that is horrible and I will never go there. Ack! |
I think it’s like, “We’re Team Red” “ We’re Greece” |
Rodman's has it. |
| Ohh, I'm inspired to do a Mezze Platter (or what should I call a selection of Greek appetizers) for a get-together this weekend (for the 4th, but more of a foodie spread, not BBQ fare). |

No idea if this is authentically Greek or not but it is delicious. Htipiti from Zaytinya.

Greek-American here. If you want to make something yourself, I think cocktail-size meatballs (keftethakia) would be more of a hit with kids/teens than some of the other apps like olives, grape leaves, or taramosalata (fish roe spread).
Here's an authentic recipe. They are usually fried but you could make them in an air fryer. Serve with toothpicks. https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/keftedes-greek-meatballs/ And here's a veggie alternative made with zucchini: https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/kolokithokeftedes-fried-zucchini-balls-or-courgette/ |
+1. I did Study Abroad in Greece and lament "Greek Salads" in the U.S. I spent four months there and did eat dolmades, though, the ones from Trader Joes are probably nothing like them. OP - go to Big Greek Cafe if you are in MoCo (they do have hummus there because so many people expect it.) Their dip platter on the catering menu is great, along with a lot of other items. |
thanks for this rec -- I'm thinking of a big mezze platter I can order ahead. |
I dare you to tell my MIL that dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) aren’t Greek. They absolutely are. |
| Meant to add that they’re good, too! One of my teens favorite dishes since she was little. |
Nostos, the best Greek restaurant in the area, serves hummus. And that’s all you need to know. |
