What about that commute time that you’ll never get back? Or commute times also correlated w divorce -
if one spouse commutes longer than 45 minutes, a couple is 40 percent more likely to get divorced |
| Don’t be crazy and spend $2.5M unless you have $10M net worth which includes fully funded retirement, special medical fees and possible schooling for IEP child, fully funded private college for both kids (today’s cost would be close to $700k at $80k per year), and incredibly secure job with sound bill of health. Why not slum it at $1.8 and put the rest into investments? |
| I lived in Forest Hills it was awesome but UDC crowd has made it nearly criminal neighborhood closer to Van Ness metro. I had my car broken into, my nanny was robbed at gun point and pushed to the ground; active sniper situation by Burke only couple months ago. I would look at Woodley Park, Kalorama, Mt Pleasant streets that are closest to the Zoo, even Capitol Hills select streets. Chevy Chase if you don’t mind commute |
LOL @ suggesting Mt Pleasant or Cap Hill to get away from crime in Van Ness. |
This lol. I was in agreement with them because of what is happening on Connecticut Ave until I read Mt Pleasant to get away from crime in van ness. Like what? |
NP. there are some very quiet, safe pockets in Mt Pleasant. But def agree on staying away from Van Ness and the interior of Mt Pleasant. |
Another lol here. |
No, it isn’t. |
Yes. It probably is. So many tools in AU Park you could open a hardware store. Still. None of DC is urban. Even the urban parts are not really all that. |
| $1.5-$2M will get you an amazing waterfront house in Severna Park/Arnold. There are great public and private schools. Plenty of people commute to DC but personally I wouldn’t want that commute more than 1-2 times per week. But it would be a magnificent lifestyle upgrade. If you don’t need to be waterfront you can find a great house for $800-1.2M and still be close to the water. |
WAY too Trumpy. Pass. |
+100 |
I think all of those neighborhoods are nice and I would live in any of them. I have lived in both Van Ness and Capitol Hill, and I have good friends in Mount Pleasant and spend a lot of time there. Of all of them, Van Ness feels by far the safest/least gritty to me so it is funny to hear a suggestion to avoid it for crime reasons. |
This is depressing. By this standard, pretty much no one should be spending as much as they're currently spending on their mortgage (except if you bought long, long ago). |
NP. Yes, PP. This is the horrible truth. Your windfalls should be used to cushion future uncertainty. Instead, most use their windfalls to increase their expectations. Bad! |
