In my case, from a high school in central Loudoun. Not going to divulge anything more than that. |
Langley has several students who were admitted into the class of 2026. Amazing students! |
Several? |
What about from the Rachel Carson/Rocky Run Pyramid (Westfield, Chantilly, Oakton, Herndon, Centerville, South lakes)? |
Definitely not all naturally talented. I’d say significantly less are. I have a kid admitted in one of the new classes. They even say there are many kids in their class that don’t belong at TJ (struggling, lazy, bad work ethic and attitudes) and wouldn’t have gotten in under the old system. |
It is due to the new lower level/standard of teaching. These "talented" kids are bored. They already know these stuff and more that is taught in T10 colleges. TJ needs to raise the standard again for the new crop. |
What is the evidence that TJ has lowered its standard of teaching? |
Not surprising. TJ admissions does not do a good job of selecting top students within a school or from the waitlist. So even schools that have a lot of admits will see some stars rejected. |
TJ has kept the same standards over the past 5 years. My older kid graduated in 2019 and my younger is a rising sophomore.
Same course work, same exams, etc. |
Our family friend's daughter is in from Lewis HS. She's Asian FWIW. |
Langley had many freshman last school year whose parents “pupil placed” them at Langley after they didn’t get into TJ. (Ie - place them due to Russian)
Not surprising that these are the same kids who got in as sophomores. The admissions office at TJ don’t advertise the sophomore process. So it has to be a very motivated parent in order to jump through the hoops to get admitted. |
I don't get what you mean here . My understanding is the sophomore process is more holistic, done by TJ teachers instead of the FCPS "admins", and requires 3 teacher recommendations, optional some objective testing (PSAT/SAT). It has to be a motivated and academically sound kid to make it thru the more "rigorous" selection process. Am i incorrect in this assumption? |
We know one kid in McLean High already turned down the offer from TJ. |
+1 Sophomore process is surprisingly well designed in many ways. The short answer questions themselves are a combination of objective/subjective criteria and found them very well designed to prevent gaming of the system. 3 teacher recommendations are another very effective way of finding students who would benefit from TJ. If you could get 3 teachers to say good things about you, then match it up with short answer questions, look at the classes they have taken and planning to take in future, you have a very effective selection process. |
Agree, looks comprehensive. The student body is small so don't think any statistics on their performance will be available. |
